Expedition Chest Fit

I have been back and forth a few times with Jessica at Gibson & Barnes, and have determined that a size 44T would be the way to go for me.

The tall part of the equation is not an issue, but Jessica tells me that the jackets are actually cut 10" larger than the size. So, a size 44 would actually be 27" across the front at pit level, for a total of 54".

(I measure exactly 44" by the way).

To quote Jessica, "You’re correct, we do add about 10” to the body of the jacket. Most of the time people won’t notice that there is such a large difference in the measurements. The extra inches that are added are for ease, movement and to allow for some clothing. "

For those of you who have size 44 expos, or just expos in general, do you find that the fit is loose? I seem to recall some of you saying it was just fine. Any comments would be appreciated.

I don't make any claims with regards to sizing and G&B. But I'm normally a size 46, but a G&B expo in size 44 fits me perfect.

This is about right... My size 54 TN measures 60... For me it is a fitted look...

But that's only a 6" difference between chest and jacket measurement. Would 10" make a big difference?

I can see based on that 10" they say they add and what you say he should consider ordering a 42T

Yes, that corresponds more or less to what I was told when exchanging emails with G&B a few months ago (see this thread).

10 inches is a lot, in my opinion. I have lost about 2" around the chest in the last 6 months or so (I'm about 38" now), and as a consequence my two Westeds have about 6" and 8" of free room in them. The smaller fits tolerably well but is on the loose side, and the bigger is downright baggy now. A jacket with 10" of room would look like a tent on me.

The difference between 6" and 10" of free room is huge! If a jacket with 6" of room fits ok, you'd have to unzip it and hold the two sides of the zipper 4" apart to imagine how it would fit with 10" of room!

I don't own one, but I have tried on a size 46. I'm normally a 50 (measured 49"), and yes it was too small, but not terribly. A 48 G&B would give me a good fit, I think. If I wanted to layer with it, I go with a 50. Still trying to decide on that right now.

I'm normally a size 50 and my 50 T G+B fits me well. It's got a little room so I can layer under it but not too much that it doesn't look right without the layering.

Well, think about it. Really thats just 1 inch for the front of each shoulder and 1 inch for the back of each shoulder. It would take a fitted look (my TN) and make it relaxed.

I see what you are saying, but wouldn't it be an extra 4" around the chest, under the arms?

Good for layering with a sweater and not being 'tight' but would seem to be lose without? Of course that's the fit many people like anyway.

Not really relevant but my Expo 42 T is a fair bit wider than my Wested 42 custom. The Wested is a bit too tight. The Expo a little loose - but not all sloppy and mall-jacketish. I'm on the slim side so I don't really know what this means...

im normally size 44 chest, the expo 44 has got plenty of room, people tell me it looks like a good fit, i think its a bit baggy, dont know if i could go down to a 42, arm length, but if i loose any weight it could look like a tent, i think its just cut for i stockier guy then me?

i am 44 chest and so ordered expo 44 reg and although it fits ok
i feel the jacket lining makes it slide about on your shoulders when worn making it seem larger and ill fitting.maybe a size down would stop this "sliding" but then you gamble that its to small and wont fit at all. just my experience and anyway its a great jacket.

Still deciding... it's a question of want a new jacket, not need. Suprisingly familiar concept no doubt.
