My son and his Paper Indy Hat

Hey Folks,
Thought you might get a kick and a smile outta this...

7 weeks or so back when I was on vacation with my new Garrison my son got it in his head to make a Paper Indy Fedora for himself. When he told me I smiled and said "Sounds like a great idea... you should DO it" always wanting to be encouraging but not quite sure how tricky it might be - or exactly what he'd end up with)...
So, he grabbed up some construction paper and off he went...

Well, before you could say "Bronze piece, about this size, with a hole in it, off-center with a crystal" he was back with his finished hat.
I was impressed... and told him so.
(If it hadda been me I probably would have gone the lazy route and made a tall ring of paper to make a "round crown", but instead he took the time to make a crown with a pinch)...
That's my boy. I'm one proud Dad.

I want you to know that we both realize this probably isn't a first... After all, it's tough to find something that hasn't already been done/covered/asked/answered here at C.O.W. over the years and we know there have probably been more than a few pictures of different kinds of Paper Indy Hats posted in these Forums... but still thought it would be fun to share and see what you think (especially for those of you newer members who maybe hadn't seen one).

One note on the photos:
When he showed me the hat I immediately asked if he'd like to have a few photos taken and we went outside to do just that... once we were done, however, we both realized (well, HE did... I wasn't going to say anything) that he hadn't made a "ribbon & bow"... so back to work he went and came back with the hat you see in the last photo (and last link).

I LOVE IT!!!. What a vivid imagination.
His idea of the hat is more right than you know. His brim cut turned out way better that my first.
This brings back memories of my brother and me making our own Han and Luke holsters out of an old pair of boots and our own home-made type one and type two phasers out of wood, communicators out of cosmetic packs complete with velcro. Your son has a great imagination. Can't imagine where that came from.

That is the best Indy hat I've ever seen. Really! I kind of miss being a kid for this reason. It had to have been a lot of fun making that hat. I used to take apart pens, back in grade school, and reassemble them backwards to make a pistol with a suppressor and would pretened I was a British MI6 agent. This is the best way to have fun as a kid. He even gave us the signature "Fox doing the signature Indy" faces. Great job and a great time kid!

I'm sure he would make a great jacket, back pleats, straps, high yoke and all. I'll bet he won't even have to put gussets on the thing. This is what a childhood should be like. Not spent on the computer like all these kids do today, wasting their times on forums and what not.

Ah, to be a kid again...
This kid has both my admiration AND my envy!

Y'know, I'm gonna try to follow his lead and hang onto that kind of youthful sense of creativity, wonder and just FUN that he gets to enjoy every day.

I don't remember ever making myself a paper hat, besides one of those paper pirate hats all kids fold out of newspaper. However I do recall making a tiny paper fedora for my GI JOE. Back in my day we didn't have any Indy action figures!

Kids are great and the hat, nicely done. Thanks for posting this and reminding us again that Indy fans are still of all ages with all sorts of budgets! You know you have now started something with him and he will be saving for an AB in the not so distant future!
