Wested screen accurate to Raiders-side straps and gussetts

Post by Raider »

Hello Wested's Jackets freaks ;)

I am totally lost reading dozens of your posts regarding authentic Wested's Raiders Jacket (which I've ordered) - the one and ONLY: screen accurate.
Lamb skin is obvious but... What about side straps (some pics?) and what the #### are gussetts (and are they really screen accurate)?
I would appreciate comments from Raiders... gurus :)

I found a bit about them at: http://www.indygear.com/forum/viewtopic ... e+fastener
but the links given are not working anymore :(

Thank you very much for your time and help!

and the zipper of course...

Post by Raider »

I should add also this dilemma. I analized "Raiders..." on DVD and saw nickel zipper many times. Peter wrote to me:

"In the original film the jackets were supposed to have brass zips but
because of the time factors involved, many of the jackets had aluminium
zips that were painted to give an Antique Brass effect. Obviously,
during filming the paint came off revealing the aluminium underneath.

So the Authentic Jacket was supposed to have authentic brass which is
why we put them on the jackets.
"

So it is surely debatable...

It's never been presented otherwise. EVERYTHING is debatable when it comes to the details about our gear. :D  Regards. Michaelson

Does that mean I have to put in Aliumiium zips and paint them with brass paint. I dom't think so. There is accurate and there is accurate.
Pass the Scotch again, no better not as Mr Bush is in London to meet the Queen and get measured up for a Raiders Jacket althogh I do not think I can accomodate 700 security staff.

Peter, you missed my point. Some folks like 'accurate', and others prefer SCREEN accurate. It was meant to appear brass, and was painted brass color. In most scenes, due to the wear and tear on the zipper, it showed up as silver. Therefore, some folks order what they know was the intention (your 'accurate') in brass, and others like and order what they SAW, which was the silver of the aluminum zip. That's the debate I referred to.

Congrats on the jacket for the President! Wonder if he's a 'lurker' here at COW? Regards. Michaelson

That is really cool Peter. Congrats. Wonder if we'll start seeing posts from G.W. asking about Aldens or the MKVII in the near future.
I'd like to see Bush wearing his Raiders jacket during a televised visit to the troops or something.

Peter should make mention of Indygear--Mr. Bush's source for everything he needs to care for his new jacket :D

Not a lot, just, you know, about a billion dollars (chump change!).

Oh and an island somewhere would be nice.

With artifacts. LOTS of artifacts.

And a mansion, for when you find the artifacts.

And hula girls. Lots of them. Those would be for me though when I come to visit :D

If you are really concerned with screen accuracy, you should stop asking questions and start reading through old posts both here and at Indyfan.com’s old vault. The answers are all there. By doing this you’ll really be able to discern for yourself what’s what. My advice is to keep an open mind and don’t assume anything. Happy hunting. Cheers

Some screen caps have shown there to be Gussets on at least SOME of the jackets used on screen (there were varieties).

My advice: If it is something you will be wearing, get gussets. It makes a WORLD of difference. Basically all they are is a little sliver of leather (couple inches) that goes in the armpit to allow greater movement.

Two thumbs up for Gussets !!

Thank you Farnham.

Special thanks to Rundquist! You convinced me OBI WAN is full of REALLY helpful guys with one interesting passion...
I've spent a week reading this forum and dozens of posts. If you advise to stop asking questions I advise you to read the text carefully before you answer it. I wrote I was looking for the answers and read dozens of messages and (as I wrote as well) found a lot of dead links. A week is enough and I think this forum was meant to help people, didn't it?

I was really interested what guys I treat as authorities (f.e. Mr. Michaelson whose many posts are really worth reading) think.

These pics still work for me. If you go back to Indyfan, you can read about the details of Terry Leornard’s jacket that _ examined. The gussets, the rectangular sliders, and many other details are still there in the posts (and are all incorporated into the FS Expedition standard, I might add). I see gussets on Ford’s jacket in all the pics of Ford where you can see under his arm. I was being serious when I suggested reading old posts. Take it easy.

Here you go. This post was written some time ago. The Wested jacket has changed considerably since the time that these observations were made. This examination was also the birth of the FS Expedition. Cheers

now ya talkin'... :)

Thank you very much Rundquist. This time seriously.

Your links answer the questions concerning side fasteners, too (apart from reading the text I've just played DVD again - these should be black rectangular!).

Take care
