I have a question for you guys, I would like to know wich word do you use for the exterieur of sweat band. Just up the ribbon, the dust or dirt ?????? I like this on my hat.

Sorry for my short message, it's very hard to me to write in english. I hope that you understand. Look my many beautiful pictures.

Great work, LLS!

Jason: What work have you personally done to this hat since you got it? Anything?

If you DID work on the hat, do you have any pictures of the hat right out of the box?

Thanks,

Michael :TOH:
Hello Michael! I don't made a modification on this hat. When i receive the hat, i open the box, i put on my head, i look on the mirror and i shape the brim with my hands and my fingers because the brim is very "supple".

When i take the pictures, i take the pictures with the good angles. Also, for the good looking, i put the hat for always see the eyebrows. Never pull his hat too down, neither behind nor ahead.

I am so pleased that you like your hat. My "sigh of relief" comes when the customer tells me the hat fits. I worry about the one thing the most. The sweatband I use is so soft. I had to adjust the technique that Fedora taught me because of the different leather I use. It comforms to the head and you'll forget it's there.

Your pictures are wonderful. Full 360 view. You still have a little room to drop the rear of the hat down closer to the sweatband. The film hat measures 3-1/2". Even doing this, the hat will still look square. My favorite shots are the second and third in the series and the one straight on from the back.
The simulated sweat/dust line above the ribbon helps balance the crown height and destinguish it fromt the other film hats.

Indiana Holt, your right about the "Well of Souls" similarity. I think the Cairo hat was used in some of these scenes before they went to Tunisia.
The hat looks great on you. :) Now, you must wear it the next time you do yard chores  and take pictures ;)
Thanks, everyone for the compliments.

LLS

P.S. I love the t-shirt.
And thanks for the picture of the top of the hat.

If I am not mistaken that would be:

Yellow: I have no idea, what that part could be named.
Red: front pinch
Blue: side dent
Pink: center dent / center crease
White: bow

btw. Did I say this is an awesome hat? It IS an awesome hat and it really suits you!

Wow, the fast answer, thank you very much ][ndy!

For the part in yellow, is it correct if i tell " exterior dust and dirt of sweatband" or do you have a another word for this part.

Thanks!

I always thought the part you have as yellow was know more as the "sweat stain" since it runs right along the edge of the ribbon pretty much around the entire crown. The smudges and "dustier" areas on the crown and brim are just dirt stains. Both effects made possible by fullers earth.

Great looking hat by the way. Very inspiring!

P.S. where did you get that awesome shirt?

Thank you very much thelivingforce! I take this note on my Indy pad.

For the t-shirt, it's my own t-shirt that i made with a printer kit, ideal for made your own t-shirt. I drew the Raider of the Lost Ark logo on a white paper and after, i scan the logo and i print with a special paper for the shirt. I bought this printer kit from Wal-Mart.

It's not a joke, i work on this t-shirt approximately 8 hours. I'm a lite bit crazy, lol. No it's just a passion and i'm very perfectionist. I love this shirt.

I did not have my drawing logo, i think that my little child plays with my drawing and i never see my drawing but it's easy to draw the logo, it's just very long.

Look my pictures.

Jason. the word you are looking for is indeed ''dust'' or fullers earth'' but fullers is just the name of the dust.

so dust is correct.

Here is my stab at this:

Yellow - This is a replicated sweat/dust mark. It represents the effect of sweating (perspiring) so much in the hat that the sweat mixes with the dust on the hat and as it dries the moisture evaporates leaving behind a stain line consisting of dirt and salt. The sweat "leaks" out above and below the ribbon. It gives the impression that the hat is worn through extreme conditions and shows the "battle scares" of having endured so much "wear and tear". I get actual stains like this on my Cairo style.

Red - This is the "front pinch" on the hat. It is the vertical line that runs from the top of the ribbon to the crown roll on the front of the hat.

Blue - This part is the left-eye (wearer's view point) bash. On the Cairo hat, this bash tends to be triangular in shape, not as deep as the right -eye bash and does not travel as far back toward the ear at the top near the crown roll as the right-eye bash.

Pink - This is the top center bash. It travels the entire length of the hat. Due to the turn, this has its own asymmetrical characteristics.

White - This part is the bow. It dresses off the ribbon. Bows take on many shapes and styles. The description given to this configuration is known as the "flying V". This is due to the "V" shape that is pronounced on the left side of the bow (when viewing). The right side does its own thing.

Additonal - On the ribbon itself are little circular or "U" shaped stains that are imitating sweat stains "bleeding through the ribbon in random spots. I think this is evidence that the sweatband is not in the Cairo hat if it was real. The sweatband is put in a hat to stop sweat from doing the very things you see on the Cairo hat. My hat will get these for real, because I don't have a sweatband in mine.

I hope this helps. It will, at least, give you insight as to how I look at this hat and what terms I refer to for the parts of the hat.

Great input LLS! :TOH:

Yeah, I thought that those stains were that of sweat, and even some of the marking that you pointed out on the ribbon were that as well. Though all pretty much the same color. Fullers earth can simulate both the sharpness of the sweat stains to that of the dusty appearance of the dirt in other areas.

The pinch I totally agree on for the red.

The dents I thoght were just that, dents.

"Bash" I thought was the type of hat you have(SOC bash or Idol grab bash) and "bashing" was another word for shaping the hat. Therefore, the two front dents and the top crown dent is what I have referred to those for a while.

Always glad to help. :TOH: :) ;)

The word dent is fine. You could interchange that with the way I use "bash". "Bashing the hat" is what you do to the hat to get the look you want. I got in the habit of refering to "the front bashed... the top bash..." and so forth, but the word dent would work too. I tend to apply the word dent when refering to random affects like the "dent just above the ribbon as shown here:

Image

Something that is not intentional, just accidental.

Further insight into my way of thinking. :)

This hat is far better looking than what the previous posts would make you think, matter of factly it's fabulous. I personally think it's one of the best cairo hats I've seen. How much do these hats cost??? I'm curious to see the inside of the hat, can you post a picture of that? Thanks
