My fed 4.new pictures. RE: NEW PICTURES

Post by Holt »

Ok. After seeing fedoraiders AWESOME hat. I became so inspired by his pictures so I thought I could show my Fed 4. I am curious to hear what he thinks about it.

I gave my fed 4 a rework around a month ago but it has been in the closet since.

The hat is not reblocked. The brim is trimmed though as the Fed 4 comes with a little too wide brim.

The ribbon is replaced and the bow is reworked...

It will never be as awesome as the fedoraiders but this is as best as I could get it without reblocking it.

What do you think?

Looks great Holt! I haven't owned a Federation in years but you and fedoraraider have inspired me to buy one and beat the tar outta it! My AB is too pretty for Fullers Earth! ;)

Good job Holt.
Inspiration spreads. (Now with canola oil. )
The Cairo hat is the ultimate work hat. Also, it seems to make the "casual Indy" look "pop" when not wearing the leather jacket.

Holt that thing is lookin' purdier and purdier every day!
(That's a little Yosemite Sam for "prettier and prettier"... except "purdier" is the more masculine version!)

the taper is perfect IMO. nothing wrong with it. but after seeing fedoraiders reblocked federation I really, really want to try to find the perfect block or make something myself to give even a more SA SOC look.

but like I said. I am pretty happy with the result...but if the oportunity is there to reblock it, I will do it.

thanx again Michael. :TOH:

WOW, your hat is very very impressing, when i look the realy good hat picture same as your hat, I look the pictures for several minutes.

For a Federation without reblocking, it's Awesome , I never see the Federation same as your hat. I like your all pictures but i loves the fourth pictures. When we take a pictures, the angles are very important for a good result.

It' very hard to me to explain this. It's important to have a brim for our height size and head size and this hat is perfect for your head size and the brim size too.

I have a question, what your head size because i realy sur that your hat is about 57cm because when we have the big head size, the looks are very different. Me, i have a 59 cm and when i bought my federation, the shape is good but never like you.

You have a realy beautiful hat.

Heck, with the hat already looking that good, I would not reblock it!! You might end up with a less accurate looking SOC fedora.

I have seen some really great looking SOC hats here lately. First a Henry, and now a Federation 4. You guys are getting good!! Fedora

WOW.

Thank you fedoraiders for your nice words. My hat is a size 58. my head is is 57.5cm. so I shrunk it abit. I shrunk the sweat band with heat so the hat would thigthen up...

what I think is very important to get that SOC look is that swoop between the rewersed tapered crown and the front brim. that was alot of work....

and thank you so much Fedora! your words means alot to me. alot!!! and I will take your advice... :D :D

Thank you guys!

here is a picture I took yesterday with alittle more tweaking....

At Holt's request, I copied the posts over from the Display thread to this one in order to keep all the comments on his hat in one place.

Bartram wrote:Holt,
Yours may be the, pardon the pun, the "Holy Grail" of Fed's!
Wow. I'd puts yours up against any criticism of these hats.

How long have you had it and did you take any special steps to obtain such a dead-on SOC bash.

Basically, what is your secret?!

Again, I'm in awe.

B
Indiana Holt wrote:Thank you very much. for a non reblocked fed this is the best you can get out of it.

its one year old. its the deluxe 4.

first I cut down the sides of the brim as the brim to wide on the feds.

then I took of the band. did custom work on the bow.sew it all back on the hat but really thight. so I got that 'mushrom' effect.

then I work on the bash and front pinch with a little water and steam.

after all of this I really took the hat in the ring and I really showed it who's the boss. and after this again I shaped it more SOC style and then dusted it down.

remember this worked for me.. I tried many, many, many times. I failed over and over again.. until it finally became the best it could be...
Bartram wrote:Say more about trimming the brim.

Which part of the Fed's brim is too wide?

Oh, I don't know about that. There's a lot of cool looking hats on here....like yours. :notworthy: :notworthy:

When I bought my hat from Steve I had him style the hat for me. I never had the "turn" put in. I guess I just want to get a second hat that I can put the turn in and try to bash it myself. I ruined my first hat, the Fed Deluxe 3 , when I bashed it myself and I've always had this "need" to prove to myself that I can bash one on my own. So, that's a lot of the reason why I want another one. ;)

Yes, Holt is causing the site to go down over and over with everybody checking out hi SOC FedIV.

There are really only two Federation IVs I've seen on here that look like a Raiders hat. The first was Pagey's. That guy is just a monster at creasing hats. The second is this one. Eric, this hat looks like it walked off the set of Raiders and onto your head. Very, very nice work!

Holt, your hat is just amazing. I'm really going to work on mine now. I want my brim to look well worn. I'm just not keen on applying Fullers Earth because I like to still wear my fedoras with a suit. Therefore my hat will never be a proper SoC.

Any more SoC pictures anyone?

Holt -
Assuming this is a relatively new hat, how did you get the weak brim break there in the front? I've got a couple of Akubras that, while I admitedly don't wear them every day, they're still over a year old and show no signs of relaxing at the break. Of course that's a good thing in a good hat, but it's one of the most important aspects of the SoC and it'd be a good trick to have in the bag.

Oh yeah - GREAT hat, by the way...

Well I just checked my Fed4 (non-deluxe) and the dimensions are almost as stated on Indygear. The size however, is only a 57 and I think for that hat size, the brim ist just a little too wide.

As stated before, it is not about getting the originals hat dimensions, but on getting dimensions, that make the hat look on you most SA.
