Todd's Costume Bag Comments

Post by Odysseus »

Note: If this looks familiar, I am reposting this as I accidentally put it in Classifieds before.

I recently purchased the Indy shoulder bag that is reproduced by Todd's Costumes (http://www.toddscostumes.com/indy/indiana_jones_bag.htm) and thought you gus might be interested in comments about it. The only other thread here concerning this bag didn't seem to involve anyone who actually had one. So here goes.

I received the bag quicker than I expected, within a week of placing the order. It is brand spanking new, obviously had been recently put together. The bag itself is very nicely done, with good stitching. At least it appears like it won't fall apart. The color is lighter than I expected, though it is passable as far as I'm concerned. The metal circular gizmo on the left side of the bag appeard the be stamped out of aluminum and riveted to the bag. Having never seen an original Mark VII bag, I have no idea how this is supposed to look.

The strap was made of very stiff leather, and appears a bit wide. There seems to have been as attempt to age the slide buckle and the rivets attaching the buckle to the strap, almost as if they had been dipped in vinegar. This could also be due to the fact that it was probably stored in a plastic bag for a while. They had a green coating on them, but it was nothing a little brasso couldn't take care of. The strap was also lighter in color than I thought it should have been.

Overall, I am pleased with the bag. I will probably replace the strap at a later time. Just so you know where I'm coming from, the bag is the one piece of gear that I am happy just having a close copy, and as I said, I've never seen a Mark VII up close, so take these comments for what they're worth.

Also, I do have some pictures. If someone could post them for me, I'd appreciate it. Just send me an email please. Thank you for your attention.

Not bad. I checked the site, and the Indy jacket and hat look pretty good, too. But for the price...

I'm pretty sure that is the WPG bag, like mentioned in the other post.
Some comparison shots of a dyed WPG bag and an original might help:

Do they look the same Odysseus?
The strap sure seems to be a WPG one and should be 1 inch wide.

Congrats on your first piece of gear! You indeed purchased a What Price Glory reproduction bag. My feeling is, this guy has a deal with Jerry at WPG and gets them wholesale, or something, because you got the bag for the same price as Jerry sells them on his website. Its a great bag, im not sure if I have heard one bad thing about them, exept for the color and strap!

High Regards

After owning a few bags I must say I now prefer the lighter color... though I like a slighlty darker value than the WPG replica. If you have a really dark green bag, it stands out against the rest of the costume. In my opinion, the bag sgould follow the muted earth tones of the rest of the gear so it can make your eye bounce around to where the emphasis belongs, which isn't on the bag.

Thanks for the replies. And thanks for the pics Swindiana. It is indeed the WPG bag.

Just to clarify, this was my first bag, but not piece of gear. Let's just say I am returning after a hiatus of a few years. The DVD's set off the spark. Iwas lucky enough to see Raiders when it was first released in the theater. I was eleven. I can't imagine a better age for this kind of thing.

Anyhoo, thanks again.

Odysseus, just as a note, you don't need to repost topics, just send a moderator a pm and we can move them to a proper section. I've deleted the classified listing.
