Alden color?
I'm just curious if anyone has ever received an answer as to why Alden refuses to change the color of there boots.
I have seen on the forum the SA Indy boots made by special order (with the hefty price tag) ;but I guess my question is why is it necessary to do this?
I think it is safe to say that the vast majority of orders for these boots are made by Indy fans. I think it also safe to assume that all of these fans wish they would change the color.
So why? The special order boots look great. They have the tools at there disposal. Why not simply make the change? Wouldn't this just increase orders? Isn't that just good business? Anyone?
Also, how many people who were thinking of buying the SA special order Aldens; would actually buy them if they were the same price as the regular Aldens?

Re: Alden color?
Someone at Alden must be a big UT fan (burnt orange)?
That really is the question of the day....why the cordovan/orange color?
Looks like a good medium/natural brown would be the way to go. In hindsight, I think that they are basically out of touch with their customer's needs, preferring instead to think of their brand as being a cut above.

Re: Alden color?
What about a petition of some sort sent to Aldens head office? There seem to be a lot of members here. Has it been done? Think it would do any good?

I wouldn't be surprised if that petition were to get filed in the circular file soon after arriving!Indy_1971 wrote:What about a petition of some sort sent to Aldens head office? There seem to be a lot of members here. Has it been done? Think it would do any good?

Re: Alden color?
I think it would at least be an idea to petition Alden about their boot color, and to see if they would offer a 'medium brown' color as one of their standard offerings, basically the natural color of a whip as it is broken in and used some, that 'type' of shade in other words. These Alden shoes were nicknamed the 'Indy boot' for a reason, because of the demand by fans. They could then offer the cordovan/orange color that they are so fond of, a good shade of brown and black. Then the 'brown' shade could then be referred to as the 'Indy' boot.
Take a look at these Alden 'wingtips' for instance, in the middle of this page:

If you could initially start at that color, you would see the boot naturally age to a rich darker brown color.

Well buddy, for what it's worth....I say give it a shot, then. Heck, I'll be signature #2 on it.

A hundred letters with one signature on each would carry more weight than one letter with 100 signatures.

Re: Alden color?
After an email inquiry, I have a phone number to call, 508-947-3926, in order to make product suggestions and requests, or if you wish to write a letter, I have an example format that you can use, just to get an idea of what we are driving at:
It is my understanding that the Alden 405 was nicknamed the Indy boot, in part, because of the demand by fans. As Indy fans and movie buffs alike have been faithful, repeat customers for many years, in pursuit of an accurate replica to what was seen on screen, I would like to make a suggestion. Could you please add to your standard choices, a "natural brown" color to your current selection of the Alden 405 line, and simply name it the 'Indy boot'? This addition would give your customers, three options : cordovan, black and "natural brown", which we could “officially” refer to as “the Indy boot.”
Most of us simply do not like the cordovan/orange color of the Alden boot, and would like to request the addition of another color option: "natural brown". The color I am referring to can be found on this site, (the Wingtip shoe in the middle of the page):

Re: Alden color?
The idea behind a Medium brown or light brown color is that the boot could be colored or aged to the desired color. This would give the owner some say as to his/her color choice, an individualization of the desired look....similiar to the way in which a certain process is used to age a whip. Some prefer a specific scene, etc.
