My New Magnoli NOW WITH PICS.

Post by Stringer »

No pics yet, sorry!!!

My Magnoli Raiders came in the mail this morning. I have a lot of half formed things to say about it, and will have a better idea once i've worn it for a couple of days. It's a superbly cut and crafted piece of gear. The lamb is not really thicker than that of my wested, but it's tougher and stiffer. It's had just enough off the shine taken off it that it didnt look glossy as i took it out the bag, but it's till got a lot of breaking on to do. The inside pockets on this thing are stunning, and i never thought i'd focus on inside pockets in a coat

I still love my Wested, it's been my loyal second skin for the better part of a decade, and i will always recomend somebody get a wested as their first jacket. But this is a nice alternative to have, and i think i'll be wearing the heck out it.

My only gripe so far isnt even really a gripe. My wested has about 7/8 years of character in it, and it's going to take a while for my Magnoli to earn that. I have no doubt it will be able to though.

No pics yet, it's late and i have a long day tomorrow. But i wanted to get this thread up early so that if anyone has any questions or requests, i can get to them when i get home tomorrow.

J.

Lots of luck with the new jacket. Wear it in good health and can't wait to see those pics. I am leaning toward a good jacket as a near-future gear purchase and am still debating where to purchase.

Thanks,

We don't get to see enough photos of Magnoli jackets.

It has two inside pockets? We'll need photos of those as well now especially since you are so excited about them.

Yes, put lots and lots of pictures. I am thinking Magnoli for my jacket and we do not get to see enough pics of them.
I wonder how it compares to Tony's jackets?

I agree that there's not enough Magnoli pics to go around so be sure to post a lot of them. I'm thinking about a Magnoli in the future (Temple) so I'm very interested in your impressions.

I asked for the collar to be slightly longer, similar to Holt's cut, and i think i got a good length

Image
You'll see here that the yolk and back panel -and the sliders- are not 100% SA, but i'm not really bothered by such 'minor' details when the rest of the jacket has gotten the spirit of the whole thing just right for me.

Image
Heres the pockets i was talking about. Again, not SA bur soooooooo practical. I'm sure Mags can do SA id asked.

Below are a couple of me wearing it. Its too tricky to use an iphone for the kind of 'in use' shots that you guys normally post, but i just wanted to give you an idea of how it looked in different lighting and the creasing on it.

Image
Image

Its always difficult to get the colour across in photo's. For me today its had the look of the dark and dusty jacket we see as the camera looks down on Indy just before Belloq seals him in the well of souls. Which is perfect for me, that's one of my ideal glimpses of the jacket.

Mag's pretty amenable, though i dont know how many 'levels' of dstress are optional. For mine i just asked for it to have the brand new shine taken off it, and i want to wear it in naturally aside from that. You'll see how that turned out when i get my pics up.
RCSignals wrote: It has two inside pockets? We'll need photos of those as well now especially since you are so excited about them.
Three actually. There's one standard sized pocket on each side (one zippered) and one slightly smaller one perfect for my iphone. Not SA, but perfect for a wearable jacket. I'm sure folks wanting pure SA could specify how they wanted their pockets.

then i have you to thank aswell for such a perfect jacket!!!

Another thing. I know that 'popping the collar' became a bit of an issue after Tony's jacket entered the scene. This collar pops beautifuly. Oh man.

Stringer, are the inside pockets something you asked for or are they standard?

Certainly a functional addition.

Ditto that. I have two Magnoli jackets, and one isn't even a true Indy style. Both have the same inner pocket arrangement.

Now, is that his washed lamb or regular?

It's nice to have another Magnoli fan around. \:D/

Jacket looks okay but those short pocket flaps ruin the overall look a bit.
You should try to stretch out the leather a bit of the flaps.
Just my opinion.

Yes, very nice but I agree with Orb a bit. The pocket flaps seem a little small and therefore make the entire pocket look huge. But that might be the look you're after so... It looks very well made.

I agree that I'd stretch those flaps a bit. Does the sleeve seam align with the yoke seam?

Otherwise, it really has that Indy vibe and, I know from my Magnoli (non-Indy) that it is a beatifully made jacket!

hey guys,

The pockets were to my measurements, they're measured to be useful to what i use them for, holding my paperback books etc. The pockets on standard Mag would be sized differentey, i'm sure.

Wait time....ummmm i'll check my emails...
(... does this in real time....)
About nine weeks from paid to worn.

Not only do those pockets look like the ones I have, they look just like my Wested pockets, too. And a lot of other pocket's I've seen. I think your mind is playing tricks on itself if you see something wrong with those pockets. Or if you don't see something wrong with everyone else's pockets, too. Depending on where you stand. :TOH:

I'm not all that fond of most Wested pocket flaps I've seen either. Although they have been getting better in the past year. Mine totally ****. ;) But as the man says, he chose this look so it's perfectly fine. Mag makes a fine looking jacket. :D

about the pockets....

You're both sort of right. I gave my own specs. It was basically that i took a look at the pockets of my wested, and i looked at specus used on here by holt and (one other, i forget, sorry), and then came up with a size that worked and that would also carry the things i like to have with me.

So they are a little wider and deeper than the standard wested. At the same time, my wested is a 38, and the Mag is a larger size, so the pockets should be scaled up anyway. So they are larger than normal, but only by a matter of milimetres.

If they're to your specs, then all that matters are that you like them and they're functional for you. Sounds like you got exactly what you wanted so enjoy that great jacket.

I would as well. All the Web page has now is 'A B C D' jackets and no good photos.

Does anyone here have a Magnoli ToD? I've heard rumour that they have the correct vent detail etc, but I'd like to see one.

I would too RC. If I were to get one, it would be from Magnoli, given that Wested is so hit and miss...

hey guys

not been by in awhile. Ig thee are any specific photo requests, let me know.

The jacket has been a massive hit. It's picked up all the creases and character that we look for. I'm not looking to open any old wounds, but i do think the lamb Mag uses is the key to the screen look, it has all the roughness and creases on see on screen in raiders without being shrunken lamb, and is only slightly thicker and tougher than my wested.

I have to say this thing is earning it's keep. First weekend out of the box i took it abroad with me as my only coat. It survived a weekend of boats, trains, sunshine, rain and Springsteen in Dublin. It's a great jacket.

It sounds like you are having a great time with your jacket. Isn't that what this hobby/obsession is all about. I will get one (Magnoli Raider) hopefully soon. Just a need to sell a few mopre houses...
Could you get some nice pics of you with the jacket on. Not that the other ones you posted were bad, it's just hard to get pictures of yourself, usually. You know the regular...front, back, sides, partly zipped, pocket flaps, three-quarter front, three quarter back. Oh and sliders.
What sliders are Magnoli using these days?

I wonder if he has made any adjustments to his jackets since the Nowaks came out; anyone know?

On a more general note... Maybe we should come up with a template of some kind for reviews (or maybe more like guidelines :) ) so we can kind of have an even keel on reviews. Nothing fancy, just something that could help standardize which pictures to post or what kind of things to include. I don't know...
