Artifact Cloth

I'm looking for info or any behind the scenes knowledge and/or photos of the cloth Indy uses to wrap artifacts like the Cross of Coronado in LC.

Does anyone have a good shot or information as to what type of cloth it actually was?

Got some new stuff coming out this summer so keep your eyes out.

Hey Wade - I have a little cloth that I use to wrap up my headpiece, and it's just a very soft cloth that you might use for dusting or polishing gold. You might try looking into things like that. Gold polishing cloths are very soft and would be good to wrap precious artifacts in!

Thanks Shane. I was just fishing to see if there were any exact theories out there. I want to offer a cool Indy artifact combo wrapped in the cloth and wanted it to be as exact as possible. I guess if there isn't anyone here who has a definitive opinion I won't find it anywhere else.

So I think I can figure something cool out.

I would think that they would've used some form of cotton back then. Definitely a material that wouldn't scratch anything.

Ah... yes, unfortunately I don't know what was actually used in the movies. But I do think the gold polishing cloth would work well. It's very soft - like Bink suggested - and wouldn't scratch anything.

Before nitrogen atmospheres and sterile environments were possible precious items used to be wrapped in 100% acid free cotton for storage. The cotton would be un-dyed and unbleached. To keep the dust off it would be a close weave. To add a a certain polish-as-you-unwrap effect the cotton was often the type known as brushed-cotton, where the knap had been raised with fine wire brushes after it came off the loom. It feels almost like chamois. Richly coloured velvet was also used if the item was regularly displayed and re-wrapped, i.e. a holy relic.

I don't think Linus would give up his prized possession for old artifacts (unless of course hewere Indy, but if he were he would've made into a soft MK VII)!!!
