Lost my Akubra

Post by laughograms »

Man, what a bad day. It was already bad -- then somewhere between leaving the house, dropping my son off at daycare and going to work -- well I reached over to grab my hat and get out of the car -- and no hat! Nothing! I have NO IDEA where my much loved size 61 Akubra has gone. And I can't afford another one. What a #### day.

Wow, well I would definately start checking at work or the day care maybe you left them there. Always good to try to retrace your steps. I hope you find your hat, especially since you cannot afford another one. Best of luck laughograms on your hat search.

Hope you'll be able to find it.

If so, You should put a label in your hat saying:

"This hat belongs to : Your name
Please contact me, reward
Email adress an Phone number"

This way, you won't have to worry about it.

Regards,

Nico

Well, there are people who steal these things. Having said that, I hope you find it!

Yeah, that's true....but a size 61?

Oh man, that's awful! Here's hoping you recover it as you retrace the steps you took yesterday.

HA! That's what I was thinking! It would be a strange thing indeed to find someone who a) favors a fedora who b) would pick one up off the street and take it for themselves who c) would also have the same enormous size coconut as yours truly.

But as it turns out . . .

HOOORAY! It was found!

One of the other daycare parents found it in the parking lot. It must have fallen off the front seat while I was getting my son out (darn Honda Element suicide door!). Their kid is a baby and that room is on the other side of the school, but one of the teachers recognized my hat and brought it to my son's room where it awaited me this morning. I think my son was more sad about it than I was (and that's saying something) so he was super happy to see it today, as I was.

Thanks for the commiserations mates!

Also it must be said -- it is a bummer wearing a huge lid. Makes the odds of finding a vintage hat that would fit, extremely slim. I never, ever, ever see anything over a 7 1/2.

Always good news to hear the hat found its master! If you hadn't worn it all the time that person might not have ever known whom it belong to. This is a lesson to us all :D :D Wear the hats!

Yeah, it's pretty funny. When my little boy Jack was in his (age 3-4 pre-Transformers) Indy period and wore his little DP Fedora all day every day, I would show up in the parking lot and other parents would look at the hat and say, "Oh, you must be Jack's dad."

Reminds me of a funny story, which I'll share: once upon a time I worked for a public radio station in upstate New York famous for its hugely successful and (for public radio) listenable fund drives and also famous for it conceited schmuck of a CEO and chief mouthpiece, an ugly, shrewish little man who never felt he was out of line making fun of others. He was famous for his extremely big-headed opinion of himself. I had designed some sweatshirts and hats for the fundraiser and I walked into the studio wearing one; he was wearing a hat. I am a chubby fellow, so Alan observed live on the air in front of a roomful of volunteers: "Boy, Mike, you really fill out that sweatshirt." Nobody laughed. Without thinking I instantly responded, "Boy, Alan, you really fill out that hat." Hysterics from those assembled.

Anyway this is wandering, and the thread has run its course, so lock away, mods, if you like.

Luck favours the adventurous. All the same, inconvenient when a hat goes of on separate adventures!
I sewed a ribbon along the edge of the sweatband, indelibly marked with my phone number and "sentimental value - reward for return". I reckon given a choice between money or having an I'll fitting hat that has been on someone else's head, most would chose money.

Congrats on finding you fedora!! HAHAHA and that was great story! Man, I only think of the smart reply to remarks like that, a loooong time after it should have been said. Cool, you put him in his place!
