DIY Budget S&W

As toy guns are about the only things you can get in England, and inspired by another post about toy guns, I thought I'd have a go at adapting one to look like the Raiders' S&W HE2.
It cost me £4 and a couple of evenings to do. It's what I'd describe as 'cosmetically correct' i.e. it looks close but does nothing (the only moving part is the lanyard ring).
My only reference was knowing the general size, and DVD stop frames of Raiders.

the only thing to bear in mind when buying the toy is that most are scaled down to child size.
I went out looking for this one knowing how long the overall thing should be. it's almost exactly the right size.
I might make resin casts off this.

I think I bought the exact same toy gun. How big is it in your hand? Is it actual size, or scaled down?

compared to other toy guns I have seen, this one seemed noticeably bigger and fits my adult hand well so I'd say it's full size.

Nice,here's the same toy gun with cosmo mods and a paint job.Fill it with putty and it gets a extra heft in the hand! And it comes witha sexy garter holster too!

Games workshop acrylics and then slightly lighter striping for the grain. Like Enigmata said this is the only adult sized close-ish revolver I've found in the UK as well.

The same over here in Germany. So let me throw in my little Buddy. It is a Resin Model from Ebay with a selfmade paintjob. So this is the best one you will probaply get over here if you are not willing to join any hunting parties ore wapon clubs......for me it's ok.

The same over here in Germany. So let me throw in my little Buddy. It is a Resin Model from Ebay with a selfmade paintjob. So this is the best one you will probaply get over here if you are not willing to join any hunting parties ore wapon clubs......for me it's ok.

Is the trigger movable and how about the cylinder?

One layer in black and after that weathering with silver and a bristle brush.( Don't forget tje clear varnish) No there are absolutly no moving parts on that replica. That ***** a bit but i am just glad to have a gun in my holster that looks nearly like Indys.

I don't mean to sound like a punk but I see you have the talent for distressing. I dabble with modeling and those paints quite often, one lesson I can never learn with distressing is that "Less is more". I suggest you redo it and add only minor silver wear, It'll look more authentic that way. Just my IMO, and I'm putting it out there because, for me, I always need someone to tell me I've overdone a paint job. But otherwise, looks great.

Well here's some updated pics of the progress. I've shaved off the rear sight, taken a notch out of the front sight, cut off the handles to affix the new wooden ones, and given the body a spray of undercoat. Just need to fill in the area above the handle and smooth it out before giving it a top coat of color.

What do you think so far?

My first one was a tryout using what I had to hand in the workshop but I can see I'll have to get another one and try for the more distressed looks I have seen here.

It actually look pretty good with just that paint job and without the modified shape. Niiiiiice!
