AB redo time frame

Post by RichardSK »

I need to send my AB back to Steve for some brim work and rebashing (possibly a reblock).

Has anyone had any recent experience doing this to give a rough time frame for repairs?

I'm thinking of taking it to Baron's in L.A. to cut down on turn around time. Any thoughts?

I have been waiting since November of 2008 on a reblock of my Raiders beaver fedora. Hoping it will be done on the new block he's been working on. :TOH:

Keep in mind that only Steve has his "special" blocks. Baron's most certainly doesn't. If you get it reblocked by Barons, it won't have the same crown shape.

I was going to trust my AB to anyone besides Steve or Marc, it would be John. That's the ONLY other guy I'd send my hat to.

Agreed. I would not trust my AB to Baron. Only Steve Marc John or David. -M

John and David? But, I would not have Barons do a reblock; only brim work and maybe a bash.

I think we're reacting as such because you mentioned the possibility of your hat needing a reblock and the idea of taking it to Baron's. It can be read that you might have asked Baron's to do a reblock as well. But since you just specified, it clears that up. What kind of brim work does it need? Are you not confident enough to try your own bashing, or just prefer someone else to do it? Just trying to gauge your problem. :)

Honestly, it doesn't matter what you need done to the hat, I wouldn't send it to Baron's. Send it off to John Penman and if not then go the David Garrison route. But please, for the love of all this holy, do NOT send your hat to Baron's.

I was not happy with the brim when I received my AB so I attempted to trim it myself and did a job that does not please me in the least and keeps me from attempting another try. I also don't like the brim not having a smooth curve to its shape. I don't know what to do to correct it. I would also like it with a Raiders bash that I have not been able to achieve.

It's hard to tell from photo's what exactly what you did trimming the brim. Can you go in more detail for me?

With the new photos you can see the uneven edge that I have done and can't correct by sanding. I don't trust myself to cut any more.

Hmm. Zip me an email with your given name so I can find it. I generally get these out within a couple of months. Yours may have mistakenly got thrown in the wrong stack. I do have other reblocks here, non AB brands that I basically will only do when I am waiting on a hat to get dry enough on the block. That is, when I have extra time. The ABs I do try to get done much quicker. Thanks. Fedora

Hello Steve,
Think you can get mine in and out with just a touch up on the brim? Hate to loose her for a few months when its nothing more than my wanting my mistake corrected.

Not to mention ABD's and possibly Mag/AB/HJ's as well.
