Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
I heard about some kind of lost web page archive a long time ago, and thought it was a myth or out of business. I came across it! Here's Vic Armstorong's Raiders/TOD/LC hat. I haven't seen this lost page in 5 years. http://web.archive.org/web/200601011750 ... m/vic.html

Thanks for tracking this down $3K!,I love MK's Regular guy site.
Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
Raiders sweat was brown. Good info.
But ANY tapered hat looks like a TOD hat Dutch. As long as it is brown. FedoraFunny how that tapered raiders hat looks just like a tod hat.

Why are we assuming that the hat id a Raiders hat?

We are not assuming we know this, Vic used the same hat through out the trilogy to double Ford.BendingOak wrote:Why are we assuming that the hat id a Raiders hat?

Becuase that page says so?
Sorry but I do not see the same stunt hats throughout the entire series. Each hat was similar to the hero hat in its respective film.

Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
Half the pics aren't popping up for me....
The page doesn't really clarify which shots are from the sets of what films. It mentions Vic doubling Harrison for Raiders at the beginning but then goes on to mention his work on the other two films.
The more I look at the very top shot on the page the more I think it's from the LC set. At first I thought the jacket looked like the TOD but then I saw the overly distressed collar on the jacket and looked at the styling of the hat.
There maybe Raiders shots on there but like I said only half of the pics are popping up for me.

Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
This page doesn't really exist anymore, and is incomplete for some reason. Here's where I found it. http://www.archive.org/web/web.php Here's old Indygear pages http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://indygear.com I used to think the narrow sweat could be a folded sweat. Both my vintage HJ's have 2 inch wide sweats, one medium brown, one light brown.Pitfall Harry wrote:

Looks very much like the ToD airplane bash with a raiders pinch.

HF accidently bashes his hat with his binoculars-leaving that dent-when Sallahs car is blown up by the tank in LC.

I just don't know. None of the photo's are from Raider but LC if I'm not mistaken. The hat hanging on the wall doesn't look anything like a Raiders hat. Hard to tell. Would love to see the bow. It would tell a lot.

VIC wore the same set of clothes for his doubling scenes throughout all movies, thats why he's wearing a raiders/tod jacket there. and that is His Raiders hat !BendingOak wrote:I just don't know. Dutch, I've been looking at that pic crossed eyed tying to work out what he is wearing.Dutch_jones wrote:VIC wore the same set of clothes for his doubling scenes throughout all movies, thats why he's wearing a raiders/tod jacket there. and that is His Raiders hat !BendingOak wrote:I just don't know. The background looks LC, the hat looks LC, the belt looks Raiders. The jacket.... has all of the distinguishing features hidden, ie. the possible snaps and the pockets.
However, the lining could be LC the inner hem seems to be like the LC, the collar also has that LC curl so i think it is LC.
This seems to confirm that he wore the LC jacket at least for some of the time!
Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
I'm a bit confused as to why you call it a Raiders/ToD jacket. I've also heard the story how Vic wore his Raiders for all 3 films. A Raiders jacket. The ToD is a whole different animal.Dutch_jones wrote: VIC wore the same set of clothes for his doubling scenes throughout all movies, thats why he's wearing a raiders/tod jacket there. and that is His Raiders hat !

Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
Interesting website. I didn't know his wife doubled for Karen Allen. I wonder where they live - I bet it's somewhere near Elstree, St. Albans or something.
Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
Harrison is clearly soaked in this shot, so I'd say it's from the Coronado boat scene. Hence why the hat cannot hold a bash.Travelsonic wrote:

Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
You know, if that is the boat scene from TLC, Vic's hat looks too new too have been used in Raiders and TOD. Remember how Terry's hat looked during Raiders? Terry's hat looked used. Vic's in that pic above, looks brand new. Nah, I ain't buying into this. Misinformation, unintentionally is my take on this. Maybe my eyes are lying, I dunno. Just hard for me to think that new looking hat had already been used in two Indy films prior to this. And used for stunts!! But, I have heard that Vic said this was the hat given him for Raiders. How did he keep it so new looking? No hat in the Lucas warehouse, looked this new. Far, far, from it. So when did it start to look more worn out. Sitting on his wall, at his home? This makes no sense. FedoraHarrison is clearly soaked in this shot, so I'd say it's from the Coronado boat scene. Hence why the hat cannot hold a bash.

Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
If that hat was used in Raiders, where is the evidence of a tight crease? Anyone who has ever creased a hat Raiders style and then decided to turn, or unturn, the hat and recrease it knows that the sharp crease stays behind and shows up a bit on the hat. Some of the ToD hats had a pretty tight pinch on them too. That hat has never had a tight pinch front. Sorry, that hat is a new hat that has been barely worn. Don't buy it.

Vic's hat is this photo with Ford looks like a LC hat. The hat hanging on the wall looks like it could have been a Raiders hat. These look like two different hats.Bullitt wrote:Harrison is clearly soaked in this shot, so I'd say it's from the Coronado boat scene. Hence why the hat cannot hold a bash.Travelsonic wrote:

Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
Thw wall/coving seems to be pushing the brim up which affects the apearance and the taper could be just years of handling, weather etc etc?
Do we know that this hat is spupposed to be the hat he wore in that picture? Isn't it possible he picked up any old HF hat just to pose for a photo op?
The hat on VA and HF are so different in shape and colour. Do we have a confirmed soucre that says VA wore the same hat/clothes throughout all the movies...just saying he was given a raiders hat doesn't mean he wore it in the other films. I wouldn't if i was given one!
I seem to recall seeing an old on set interview with HF and VA at the time of LC regarding shooting stunts...the pic looks like a still from that interview...could be wrong.

The one I saw was filmed around the time of the movie but this version shows VA & HF together as above.

Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
The reason the two hats are a different shape and color is becuase Ford's hat has been soaked. Look at him, he's dripping wet!
To me, though, that shot doesn't look like a photo op, but a candid shot. I could be wrong becuase we are seeing it out of context, but that is what it looks like to me.

They were being interviewed/filmed on set. Would HF sit and give an interview whilst soaked to the skin?

Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
You can see Harrison dent that hat in the film, but the best clip of him doing it is on the extras dvd-watch the clip of the filming of the scene where Sallah's car blows-up-you can clearly see HF accidently bash the top of his hat-in(leaving that dent!)with his binoculars, then Spielberg tells him to look at Sean Connery, laughs and says 'cut'...I've pointed this out once already, see for yourselves.
Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
I doubt it's the same dent. Hats get easily crushed during filming. Just look at the cockpit hat in ToD. Considering the quality of the LC hats, I'd say this is just a result of the 'rough sea' water tank.mark seven wrote:You can see Harrison dent that hat in the film, but the best clip of him doing it is on the extras dvd-watch the clip of the filming of the scene where Sallah's car blows-up-you can clearly see HF accidently bash the top of his hat-in(leaving that dent!)with his binoculars, then Spielberg tells him to look at Sean Connery, laughs and says 'cut'...I've pointed this out once already, see for yourselves.

Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
I pulled these pics from the "Stunt/Making of.." video. Harrison is in the foreground (left), Spielberg (play mountain) in the middle and Vic in the backgound (right). He and his wife Wendy double for Harrison and Karen (Vics words) when the truck exploded in the flying wing scene. I had read that he used the same hat through all three films. That means the hat he is wearing would be the same hat hanging in his house. He would have also used it in the Hawaii scenes falling out of the cave and running from the Havitos.
It is shadowed, but it definitely has the look of a Raiders style hat. No turn is evident. Cool looking hat. I studied these pics a lot while working on my own hats. It had a key element to it that helped define the hat to me.
The hanging on his wall does appear tapered to me, but it is bashed a bit different from the tight front bash from Raiders. He probably rebashed his hat to match the style of the hat for each movie. That explains to me why the hat looks more like the hat from Crusade. He only wore a hanfull of times during Raiders as compare during Temple. The hat probably faired pretty well during Raiders.

Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
I just don't think that is the same hat. On top of other things, the tight Raiders pinch would still be visible if he had recreased the hat to match the other film hats. We don't see that in the pic of him sitting with Ford. If the hat shrunk, like is visible in the picture of it hanging on the wall, it would have happened during filming and the hat seen in the LC shot with Ford looks new. I doubt he would have worn the hat outside of filming. Why then would the hat shrink so drastically from that shot to then, when He probably didn't wear it much in filming to begin with? Becuase it is not the same hat.

Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
Once that tight pinch is put into rabbit, it is hard for it not to show, if you crease it to TLC look. But, I also know it has been said many times that Vic said he used the same hat for all 3 films. That is odd, really, as the costume designer would have sourced hats for Ford and the stunt doubles with each film. All I can say, is weird.
Also, I know it is hard to tell, but doesn't the brim in that last pic, look a bit larger than TLC hat he has on in the first? But, hard to say for sure. Fedora

Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
I agree Fedora. The brim doesn't look TOD or TLC. To me, it its difficult to get a good assessment of the hat base on the two close-up shots. The front shot does seem very TOD style. The "top" shot has essence of the top of the hat shot when Indy's hat is on the table (when the monkey croaks on bad dates). The hat that Vic is wearing in the pics I posted is very Raiders in stature. More so than Terry Leonard's hat. I think Vics hat was styled a little more Harrison like than Terry's. Terry/s hat always appeared to me as basicly putting it on his head for stunt work. Vics hat can be scene really well when he is running from the Hovitos. His hat appears less boxy compared to Terry's hat. Also, I know it is hard to tell, but doesn't the brim in that last pic, look a bit larger than TLC hat he has on in the first? But, hard to say for sure. Fedora
Who's to say Vic had his hat serviced after each movie? I don't see evidence of old and new bashes and creases. The current hat (at that time) was very relaxed just like TLC.
I stared holes into MK's site back in my early lurking days. I like the pics he had on the Clipper plane, too.
You early folks really laid down the foundation of what is in full effect today. Proof is we are still visiting these subjects today. Thanks for finding this 3THOU$.

Re: Long Lost Vic Armstrong Raiders hat page.
I feel the same way, even with the dimensions not considered. The Raiders brim just looks to be cut a little differently than the other fedoras he wore. Of course, if Swales handcut the Raiders brim, and the TOD and TLC were factory cut, that would be the difference. That is a great shot of Vic's hat too, the one you posted LLS. FedoraThe brim doesn't look TOD or TLC. To me,
