Achieving the Raiders brim taper properly?

Post by Peru »

I'm new to all of this and I apologize if this has been answered somewhere else before. I did a search on here and on Google and all I seem to find are guides explaining how to bash the crown and not so much tapering the brim of the fedora properly. I have a Christy's Adventurer and from my understanding the brim is not as stiff as it should be which is why I may be having the problem...

But what I have been doing is folding down the front of the brim and slowly curling up the sides only towards the front... it does not seem to work right or look proper. The back is also too curved naturally and I cannot seem to fix it either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated or a heads up on a guide would also help! Thanks in advance! :-k

I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "brim taper" but if the curl of the brim is what you are talking about, just handle the hat and wear it normally and you will find that the hat will begin to look more and more like you want it to. A floppy brim, not a stiff brim, is what you want on a Raiders hat. With a soft brim, you can achieve the Raiders look, but you will need to turn the hat. To do this, put the hat on your head straight. Look at yourself in a mirror and turn the hat to the right and you will find that the brim will distort in the same way that it did in Raiders. I hope this helps. ;)

Probably need to put a piece of cloth on the back brim, and iron out some of that curl. Fedora

Thank you all for your help! It was the brim curl I was talking about. I can understand how the front will fall down with wear but I do not see how the sides will begin the curl up? They are rather flat now or curling down... how do they curl up with wear?
