Post by indyfan1234 »

you guys remember the older indy hats at disneyland when they were soft and now they are hard as a rock. this is what i did to my old one to make it look more like the raiders fedora

thx all i really did was spray it with water and hold it with my hands to the shape i want and then used a blowdryer. so then it dried and it was done after i threw dust on it from around the house to make it look more worn still finding more dust to throw on it

Not bad at all. Kind of looks like the one I did as well. Now just replace the ribbon and you'll have a good beater hat.

i'm wondering about reshaping my dorfman , it is still pretty stiff from getting it a year ago --- when i first got it i tweaked the front pinch and it came out much better than when it came to me. but i would eventually like to change the back of the hat to give it a better raiders bash ---- should i wet the whole hat down or just spray it abit ? any help would would be a of great service .here is my hat so far

The problem with the DPs is that they don't have the block shape to support a Raiders crease. If its the fur DP, you might be able to reblock it and get it looking close enough. If its wool...well, I don't know what to tell you. It does look a lot better with the ribbon change, though, thats for sure.

yeah i just didnt like the brownish ribbon on it , so i had the ribbon put on by a hat company here in chicago , optimo hats and it cam out fabulous , i had my grandfather old hat which i tried to do a raiders bash on since it was older and a littl bit "flexible ' i had done the ribbon myself and it came out ok , heres what it looks like but it didnt get the height i wanted on the crown

Ouch. It may be time to move on to an Akubra at the point. I do believe that hat has seen it's last days as an Indy hat.

wow, heckova job man, it's a wonder why they (Dorfman/disney) don't wise up and redo their manufacturing process. You obviously know how it is, felt stretches but maintains it's integrity, how they don't get how to make a stovepipe raiders/crusade/skull style is baffling....maybe steve and marc can put some insight into that. But beside the point, that redo is #### good

i went to disney for the first time last year at the age of 28, and unfortunatly my son was unable to come along ... so i got him a hat from there. At the age of 9 he got his first Indy hat, it wasn't perfect as we all know ...but if i had gotten a hat like that when i was 9 (i was 15 when they started the Indy ride ) i'm pretty sure i would not have complained and i figure my face would have lit up like my boys did.
(i got tears in my eyes thinkin about it)

That's so cool, we're going to disney in a few weeks with my baby nephew and his parents thinks he probably won't remember it, but for us I hope it's near as good as the feelings your son had upon getting that hat... :TOH:
