My A-2 Style Jacket (with pictures)

I originally posted this jacket in the gear section, and I realize now that that was the wrong place for this post. My aplogies to the forum mods for my mistake. Still, it was established that this was nto an original A-2, as the pockets have the warmer slits on the side. Many thanks to Rick for the information. Here is the link to the previous thread:

Anyway, here are the pictures of the jacket I picked up at a second hand clothing store for $20. Anyone have any idea as to its origin?

Older Schott jacket appears, probably a 164SM. Check around the eBay listings for "schott leather" and you'll find ones that look just like it.

Michigan Smith, I believe you nailed it. I have a Schott jacket as well that looks exactly like that one. One thing I do not care for is the sleeve construction. The gusset area is strangely configured making the sleeve look like a 3-piece construction from the back. The handwarmer slit pockets do not run parallel to the pocket seam either and are slightly angled as well.

If you have the same jacket I have, you have one tough jacket. I love horsehide and the way it conforms to the wearer. It is like your own personal suit of armor and gives the impression someone is still wearing it, even when it is on the hanger.

Too bad for us that it is not a widely used leather anymore. (Good for the horses, though

) If your jacket sounds similar to the one I just described, I can send you a photo of the label for informational purposes if you are interested.

Thanks for the help guys. Rick, I think we must have the same jacket... this one is tough too. My warmer pockets are slanted also. I'd love to have a picture of what the tag looks like if you're willing.

Though mine has seen better days, I think the "suit of armor" analogy still applies. The tag is gone, the lining is torn a a bit at the seam, and some of the pocket insides have come unstiched in a few spots. Still, the coat is far from falling apart... I'd like to restore it a bit. Any reccomendations on addressing the wool around the bottom? Mine has developed what my roomates girlfriend describes as "fuzzies."

At a later date, there's not one thing on that jacket that can't be restored and/or replaced by a good jacket company, such as Flight Suits. They can reline the jacket, replace cuffs and the waist band. With an application of a dressing, the leather will be renewed, and you may end up passing that jacket down to your grandkids! Not to shabby for a $20 purchase, my friend! I NEVER find treasures like that when I'm out.....Regards. Michaelson
