Washing hat liner?

Can someone tell me how to wash a hat-liner?(I have a vintage HJ liner that I'd like to swap into my Mag HJ when it arrives,it's just a bit grubby-sweat stains),I'd like to clean it but I don't want to ruin it by doing the wrong thing,thanks!

I've always hand washed my liners in a plastic tub with some Woolite. Swish it around a bit, and rinse the same way. If needed, I repeat the process. I never wring it, though, but let it air dry naturally. If the liner is really dirty, it'll clean up, but keep in mind a liner will never be as pristine as when it was new and unworn.

The best way is to soak it in naptha, that is, as long as there is not the stick on decal used on some HJ liners. Naptha will not shrink the liner, whereas some liners will shrink if washed.

You can even clean a hat in naptha with sweatband, liner and ribbon left in the hat. No bleeding, at all, or I have never had one to bleed. Just air it outside for a day, or until the smell is gone. Once dry, you won't smell the gas. Fedora
