Sorry I've been kind of out of the loop on this but, does anyone know what shade of brown(hopefully brown ) the Aldens from Renners Boots are coming in these days? I'm thinking about ordering a pair sometime soon but I want to be sure of the color..
Thanks Al, I really appreciate it....by the way, I hesitate to ask because it's nearing the point of beating a dead horse (and I'd hate to see Michaelson have to drag out that soapbox again *) But how did you find the sizing?? Did they fit normally or would you recommend ordering a 1/2 size smaller?
I only ask because I once tried a pair of the Carolina Boot Indy-style boots in my normal size 10 and they fit like clown shoes; so, I ended up sending those back and have yet to get an Indy Boot.

Have you ever worn work boots before? They aren't going to look like trainers on your feet. They're more like really chunky dress shoes. I personally wear a 10D in New Balance 991s, Carolina 164s, and Alden 405s. But I've worn work boots since I was a kid so I never got the clown shoes thing. My Doc's look more like clown shoes to me than my Aldens. K
Sure, I have... I own two different pairs of Wolverine work boots, one pair is the typical tan colored work boot that is lightly insulated and the other is kind of an Indyish boot...it's an ankle boot that borders dress/work which is also very very lightly insulated; both are size 10 and fit like a glove.. the same thing goes for my pair of Gov't issue combat boots, which aren't lined..they're a 10R and feel like they were custom made.
As to the Caronlinas, it is possible that I'm not used to an unlined, lower-cut boot but, in my humble opinion I felt that it was just way too much extra room. But, maybe I will just go ahead and order a 10 in the aldens since everything else I wear is a 10. Thanks for your input and your help.
I can only give you my experience with these boots - I ordered a half size too small at first and they WERE a half size too small. Another member has these now.
My new pair were ordered in my CORRECT USUAL SIZE and fit perfectly, no bigger and no smaller than they should be.
So my advice would be:- order your usual shoe size. Anything else is just overcomplicating matters and is potentially very costly. My argument here is that Alden are an old respected company and they SHOULD know the difference between a 9.5 and a 10...........in my opinion, they do.
However, as everyone's feet are different you could consider being professionally sized at a shoe store if you want, to be sure.
Oh by the way - get the correct width of your foot, that's really important and will avoid that 'clown shoe' syndrome you talk about. The boots, I believe, are meant to be quite 'roomy' at the front, but there should be no slippage backwards and forwards as you walk.

Just curious, were they correct for your UK size or your US size? Also, just a tidbit, most people wear their shoes too small. Something to think about. K

True, Aldenshop in SF told me you should be able to play a piano with your toes with your boots on.... Hmm maybe that was someone on this board.... Dunno.

Just to throw my hat into the ring since this is sorta about work boots:
I feel out of place in my normal everyday shoes (size 11). But I am right at home and happy as can be in my work boots which weigh a ton and are size 12...but I still love 'em.
In answer to your question, I converted my UK size into the US sizing (which is, funnily enough a half size bigger, but in name only) - so the boots I got were a us size 10, a uk size 9.5. I take a 9.5.
