My new Western "Young Indy"

Post by Tremolo »

Here is a hat that me and my dad made out of an old Western hat. We started working on the block last September, and it´s really not as easy as it sometimes seems to be ;-)
I wanted to get a blockshape that comes closer to what I see in the Young Indy series. Well from most angles I´m pretty happy with the result!

This is how it looked when I got it:

Here it is on the block

And here is the finished hat :)

It is still very stiff but I´m sure it will soften up over time.
It has a 45mm ribbon that I got from Marc (thanks again, it´s wonderful!), a 3 inch brim and a 5 3/4 inch crown.
Basically it has the same dimensions as my Young Indy Christy´s, except for the 45mm ribbon. The bash is also not really YIJ (except for that short scene in the London 1916 episode).
However after seeing the hat with a 45mm ribbon I´m very sure that the screen used hat had a 2 inch wide ribbon. But I think I will keep it that way, just for some variety... or at least till I get another 2" ribbon ;)

I hope you like it, what do you think?

good job!
welcome to the hat customizers club. next you'll find yourself buying some hat bodies and giving it a go from scratch, that's what happened to me.

The young Indy hat isn't my favorite but you've done an admirable job. Is that a seam on the non-bow side of the ribbon?

Thanks WalkingEye, I will probably do so if I can find some hat bodies in Europe. It is really a whole lot of fun!
No it´s no seam on the non-bow side, the ribbon was folded and I couldn´t get it completely out. But it looks a lot worse in the picture, actually I haven´t seen it till now ;)

Thanks guys!
The hat already became much softer from wearing and the beaver felt feels very tough, but it gets very hot ;)
Yes the ribbon is very sweet, it´s from Marc from Adventurebilt. It feels and looks really nice. I wish it would be available 2 inches wide.

The next thing I try will be the fedora from the 3rd season (Treasure of the Peacocks Eye, Hollywood Follies...) which was a little bit lower and had a slight brim curl on the sides. And I´m relativley sure that one had a slightly smaller ribbon compared to the hats used in the first and second season, so the 45mm ribbon would work just fantastic.
