Re: THIS IS TONY NOWAK - AND THIS IS OUR THREAD!!!
Welcome Mr. Nowak!
It has been really wonderful for me being a casual Indy fan and seeing the man behind the jackets come out and embrace a community of geeks. I doubt there is anywhere else such enormous time and effort is spent analyzing the tiniest details of a leather jacket, nor a place where types of leather is so hotly debated.
I didnt know what I wanted in a leather jacket until I saw your Raiders jackets start to be shown off and talked about by so many happy owners. It is my dearest wish to own one when I get up the funds. The only leather jacket I have ever owned is something I have had since I was 13 years old. As I grew into it, a love also grew in me for a good leather jacket for all occasions. That jacket of mine was retired last year after 10 years due to a tear in the leather.
Now I find myself in the market for a new jacket to wear for at least the next 10 years. I really want a jacket of supurb quality and stlye, one which also has the added cool factor of being a film icon and made by someone who is the best in the field.
That jacket will be a Raiders and I would like you to make it for me.
It will be my honor to wear something made by the most skilled and passionate man in the business.

Tony,
Welcome aboard!!! It's great to finally have you here. Now the Nowak jacket threads will only be a few pages long instead of dozens of pages of rants. I live in Hollywood, so I'm hoping to pay you a visit in the near future with my credit card in hand.
Kind regards,
Craig

Hey Tony!! Welcome to the wonderful world of COW. Glad you made your first post of here, as many have said it is about time. I am trying to save my nickels and pennies, for one of your fine looking Jackets. The hardest decision will be which one to get. Re: THIS IS TONY NOWAK - AND THIS IS OUR THREAD!!!
If I remember correctly, the CS goes for around $695. I'm getting my LC in his darker CS cowhide for around $750. Only a few of the leathers push the jacket into the $900-1000 range.

That is with shipping. Less if you can pick it up yourself.VP wrote:Something like 800 to 1000 dollars.
the $800 stated is probably slightly higher than it really is even with shipping.

What TAX does Fed Ex charge? Are you referring to a customs charge or a charge your own country places on the cost of a FedEx shipment?Dutch_jones wrote:No I know, but the thing is fed ex in general charges taxes overseas. Re: THIS IS TONY NOWAK - AND THIS IS OUR THREAD!!!
Knowing the Dutch customs as I do it's probably both: If the goods exeed a value of E 200,- customs will make you pay a customs charge and taxes. This will be collected by the company that is shipping the goods.RCSignals wrote:What TAX does Fed Ex charge? Re: THIS IS TONY NOWAK - AND THIS IS OUR THREAD!!!
When Tony origianally sent my first jacket, he priced it at 50$ on the invoice to save on customs duty. Unfortunatey, Austrian customs didn't go for that and I had quite some trouble getting them to release the package for delivery. They wanted me to provide an original order form or some documentation that proved the value of the jacket, which I obviously couldn't do. In the end i forwarded some emails that Tony had written me (not mentioning the price) and they said they would assess the matter. 3 days later they sent on my jacket and I had to pay 50Euros tax. Still not as much as I would have paid at full price. What was really annoying was that when I sent my jacket back to Tony, I asked him to mark it clearly as "returned goods". Tony did so, but customs still withheld the package. They phoned me up and said that the goods were not regarded as "returned" as there was no copy of the original invoice nor the original customs tax. In the end, they tracked the original fedex number and saw that I had been taxed 50Euros. They told me I could either pay the same again or wait and have the package reassessed. I paid the same again - because if they had opened the package, they would have seen the second jacket as well!!!!
All in all I got off lightly.
So long story, cut short - you may well have to pay customs tax depending on where you live!!!

Exactly. Most countries have some sort of Import duties or tax, some apply both !whiskyman wrote:...

(and obviously not just to leather jackets)
Re: THIS IS TONY NOWAK - AND THIS IS OUR THREAD!!!
Company like Fedex and UPS have agreements with coutries' customs to collect taxes. With national or others companies, it's random since it's the custom-officers who have to check shipping containers at airport.
In France to calculate the customs fees it's really complicated, you have to find in which categories belong your product to see if you have customs fees. Then you add the shipping price, the customs fees and you add VAT (18,6 %)
So in the end you have to pay nearly 25% of your product....
I ask Tony to put a lower value for my jackets ($50) and to say it's a gift. No custom fee to pay. I've been lucky
