Yes, the Doughboys would use the "Corrected English Model gas mask" and the bag would have lift-the-dot fasteners instead of snaps.

Here's one on Youtube:

I have recently bought an original II WW bag (probably 1941). It is almost impossible to buy one in Poland – guess I was lucky. The bag was brought by a polish soldier of II Corp from England, where he stationed during the war. I didn’t decide to remove the strap yet :-k

Thanks Swindiana. The bag in the video seems to differ only by the snaps, but in the previous photo some of the bags appear to have a different top configuration. More of a duffel type sleeve at the top that might fold over to form a flap when closed?

I think that's an illusion from the soldiers wearing the bag on "backwards" where the flap folds over itself when wearing the mask. The snaps would be facing towards the chest when bag is closed.

If we're thinking about the same thing, that is. ;)

That must be it. Usually you see the flap folded to the front when the mask is in use, it just looked like a whole 'sleeve' in the photo but could just be the flap standing straight up.
