Flip the front?

Post by suburbancomics »

I really like the way Indy's hat looks when the brim gets flipped up in the front, I also like the way it looks on my hat as well. But I am more concerned with the well being of my lid than I am with flipping the front of it up. So my question is, does it hurt the hat any to flip the brim up. Can it cause any sort of damage or warp the brim? Thanks guys.

Not in the least! Unless the hat has so much stiffener in it that it's hard as a rock and feels as thick as cardboard (like many western hats) flipping the brim up will in no way harm your hat. If you've heard the term "snap brim" it means that you can do precisely that, snap the brim up or down, depending on the wearer's preference. The way some folks pre-distress their hats will do far more harm than just flipping up the brim. Flip away! ;)

I flip mine up like that from time to time and it drives my friends crazy. Like Bink said. As long as it's not super stiff, flip away.

I flip the front of mine up when I'm shooting with my DSLR. I also occasionally flip up the back.

I am a huge fan of classic cowboy movies and I can honestly say...I've never wanted to have a hat like Gabby _! I can just see kids in the 50's arguing,"Dang! I was Gabby last time! " :rolling:
