Getting a smoky smell out of a leather jacket? >>

I was roasting some marshmallows this evening in my US Wings A-2 and it has (unsurprisingly) acquired a bit of a smoky smell. I gave the jacket (which is goat skin) a light wipe with a damp cloth afterward to remove any surface soil. I am now hanging the jacket in a well-ventilated place indoors. I'm assuming that the smell will dissipate with time, but is there anything else (non-exotic, please!) that I should be considering? Thanks!

Just air it out. Maybe spray the lining with something like Fabreze

Yeah it should vanish with airing. Soaking it could help a bit too.

Hang it outside instead of inside. You'll be amazed how quickly smoke will dissapate when exposed for a day or two of hanging in the outdoors and fresh air.

No fresh air where I'm located, I'm afraid. Lots of pollution. Leaving the window open for a day results in a black film on the window sill.

Well, after a few days, I'm pleased to report that the smoky smell is much reduced. Sometimes doing nothing really is the best solution.

Some years back I picked up a US Navy G1 jacket for $10 at a vintage store. It was in great shape, but the fur stank/stunk/whatever. Horrible smoke and Mola Ram knows what all else.

A few sprays of Febreze, let it sit for a day, and the stench was gone. Amazing stuff.

ozone machine, in fact put one in a room to eliminate odors in general. set to run when at work, come home open windows briefly to air out, best not to breath the ozone.

I agree with the others tym, the "air out" idea always works for me. It seems the leather aroma eventually over powers any smokey odors,even if just hung up in an open room inside the house for a couple days. (not a closet) No drastic measures required!

Sometimes you don't have a choice!

Yep, whenever you have a nice sunny day and you're not wearing your jacket, occasionally hang your jacket out IN the sun, and you'll find the smell will completely disappear.

Mine did. There isn't a hint of smokey smell left in my jacket now.
