I havent been on this forum in a while so i dont know if steve (fedora) is still reblocking AB's.
When i ordered my hat i opted for the "ravens bar" scene style. over the year i've had it ive noticed that the height of the hat is too short in ratio to the size/shape of my head... you see i have quite a long and narrow shaped head.
From a side profile view of the pinch the hat goes up straight intill it reaches the top of the sweatband and then taper's backwards giving a "falling back" impression.
The question i guess im trying to ask is... if i get my hat reblock in say a "idol temple" or "cairo" will it
1. straighten out the profile of my pinch?
and
2. can an already blocked hat be stretched from 4 1/2 inches from bottom of sweat to top of pinch to a little over 5 inches in height?
Any replies are greatly appreciated
ps what was the spec of HF's raiders aht in height?... anybody?
regards

The height of the front pinch sounds right to me and also the profile you describe is exactly as it should be: straight up or even outward a litle untill a hair above the top of the ribon and then it should taper backwards. you can see it here:
So although Steve is still reblocking AB's, based on what you are saying I don't think you need a reblock. However, some pics of the hat on your head would let us know for sure.

What you are describing is normal for a Raiders hat. The tighter the pinch, the more it will lean back like that. Notice that none of the hats in the subsequent films tilt back that way. Thats becuase the pinch was not very tight. From the photos I've seen of your hat, I'd say it looks just fine on you. If your not happy with the hat to face ratio, the hat is for you to wear and for you to be comfortable with. I'd say if you don't like the dimensions, get it reblocked. If its just the tilt in the front ou don't like, I'd suggest going for a CS crease. All the Raiders hats will lean back like that.

It is almost impossible to add height to a hat once the hat has been made. You can do it, but you lose brim width.1. straighten out the profile of my pinch?
and
2. can an already blocked hat be stretched from 4 1/2 inches from bottom of sweat to top of pinch to a little over 5 inches in height?

Going by the above specs you gave, you have a very accurate specwise to the Raiders fedora. The Raiders fedora is not as tall as many percieve it to be. I found that out when I started out making them 5 3/4 tall, open crown height. Way too tall! UNLESS you wear a large hat size that is. Up to a size 7 1/2, the Raider specs from the film work on most folks. Above those sizes, you sometimes do need to add some more height, but no more than 1/4 an inch. And if you wear a size 7 and below, you need to subtract from the film spec crown heights and brim widths.
IMO, the tallest hat in Raiders, if measured from the highest point on the sides of the hat is never more than 5 inches once it is creased. Some hats come in below the 5 inch mark, like the one posted from the film above. Shrinkage is the culprit, IMO. Or the ribbon got pushed up when the brim drooped in the SOC fedora.
If you look at the pics of folks in AB Raider fedoras here, even the 5 inch tall hats look almost too tall when compared to most of the film hats. Most of this is just an illusion though, coming from pics being taken too close. To get a better idea, back off, 30 feet, and use the zoom feature on the camera to get a better idea of exactly how tall the hat looks. Fedora
