Christy's Adventurer!

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
Me too, but I fear it is largely due to the colour of the chair affecting the camera's perception of the hat's colour though . Alphared6, can you post a picture of your hat to a more neutral background colour please? I would like to see if that chair is playing tricks on us.

Here is the hat, picture taken outside in natural but shaded light. This is an accurate depiction of the hats actual color.

Hat looks great Mike! I always thought the sable color on the Christy's was a great match, glad you finally got it and sorry for the wait and the postal crushing service!

If you have a photo of a "Bessemer" colored Adventurer, and possibly the "Gray Mix", could you post it? I'm looking for a good charcoal gray color. thanks.

Well, ok, here it is, my first attempt at bashing.
Comments/critiques? Bearing in mind that I'm not going for a 100% SA look, just a general Indy vibe.....

That's the hat I wanted but could not find anywhere, when I began looking back in 1984. Once the brim softens, it will look even better.

Jlee, I would trim 1/8'', maybe 1/4'' off the brim. I think its too wide for your face. Otherwise, I think the hat looks fine. I like the crease you've put in. It is definately Indy.

Now there's an idea....I was actually thinking the brim was a bit wide, but wasn't sure if I was just over compensating for the fact that I've been wearing a trilby hat with a 1" brim lately....DR Ulloa wrote:Jlee, I would trim 1/8'', maybe 1/4'' off the brim. Where might one get such a thing done? Excuse my ignorance please, but this is my first nice hat.

And thanks for the positive comments guys! I'm really happy with this purchase.

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
You could get it done at a hat shop, if there is one in your area or send it to one of the Indy-vendors here. Or even doing it yourself if you´re feeling confident enough. There a quite some tutorials around.
But before you do anything of that, wait till the brim gets softer and then give it a bit more curl on the sides, that could also give you a smaller brim look.
In my opinion it is a bit hard to get the brim look real good on a new Christy´s, give it some time before you or someone else cuts something off

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
Yes the brim is unresponsive on an brand new Christy's- but after three months or so, my hat's brim is extremely malliable, and I can get just the look I want, and I contemplated a bit of brim-trimming to start with so give it some time

Hi, fan of christy's
Just want to show you a new colour : maize
I asked to "Hornets" if it was possible to produce these hats with a better felt (a little bit more thick and specially dense). They pass the message on Christy...Hope, I will be heard.

I'm always surprised to see the "quality-beauty" of the colour...far away actually the best for me!

The current Christys' felt is the seems to be perfect as it is
There've been so many hats that have been "improved" that the Christys seems one of the few left that comes on the right felt as it is.

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
I received some samples of Christy's felt colors and the Maize looks like it is a taupe color. The Beige, or a tan/khaki color also looks like a very good choice, especially for warmer days.
From light to dark:
Beige, Maize, Brown mix, Burma, Light Sable, Cork, Sable, Peatwood

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
Here are a couple of outside photos of my Christy's Sable (left) and new Cork (right) fedoras. The cork was stiff out of the box and almost felt like a beaver, at first.

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
It's interesting what the contrast between inside and outside lighting will do to the overall appearance of the felt, and its various hues. Inside, the Sable looks much darker, and the Cork has more of a reddish appearance. While the Cork looks the most like the 'screenused' fedora color in outside lighting, from my perspective.

The current Christys' felt is the seems to be perfect as it is
There've been so many hats that have been "improved" that the Christys seems one of the few left that comes on the right felt as it is.
First picture with a burma hat.
Second picture three hats from Christys : Burma (left) Maize(middle), Light sable(right)
It's not possible to have a "center dent" with my head...
Third picture with an Akubra from the Australian Army (Slouch hat)...Burma colour...a little bit more green.
For me, a center dent shoud be possible with a 6"...
I noticed some difference on the sizes : Burma and Maize : Brim : 2"7/8-3"; 2"3/8 and 5"1/8 (crown formed)
Light sable : Brim 3" ; 2"1/2-2"5/8 and 5"1/4 (crown formed).
The felt seems to be thinner on the top of the crown of the light sable (as we wanted to make a crown higher) .
Probably the felt used for the first movie for me, but not for the second and the third.
Last picture...not easy... and the wide angle can't give a good idea...

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
Will they bash it for you or is it not recommended? I"m looking for the best LC fedora out there and this was suggested...what options will Christys give?

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
Bashing would probably cost more if they do offer the service, but you don't really need it with the Christys; it is very easy to shape. The brim is a little stiff at the beginning, but softens nicely with use.backstagejack wrote:Will they bash it for you or is it not recommended? It probably would be best to email Christys with any questions about customization, just to be sure. I do know that you can choose any ribbon width or brim size, and I don't think they charge extra for that. I ordered mine "as is," though, and am very happy with it.

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
I love the way this hat fits...the way the brim is styled reminds me alot of how Sean Patrick Flannery had his fedora in some of the later young indy flicks.......did you get christy's to specifically cut your brim to certain specs, or is it their specs?ANJALI wrote:
i heard that they will alter, brim, AND crown specs for customers...
Re: Christy's Adventurer!
That´s interesting, I knew they would do special brim and ribbon requests for you but never heard of other crown specs. Do you have an example?backstagejack wrote:i heard that they will alter, brim, AND crown specs for customers...
Re: Christy's Adventurer!
Thanks! Haven´t seen that page in a while.
Well, it sounds reasonable if you can get different brim and ribbon sizes that you could also order it with different crown heights.
I would really like to know if someone tried ordering the Adventurer a little lower or taller than standard.

I agree....
I'm tempted too...as indy's normal specs seem a little too tall for my head size....

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
If you do then tell us what they said.
By the way, are there any news on the better felt for Christy´s question?
I remember last week somebody asked them but sadly didn´t post what they answered.

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
Hi, thinking of getting the Christy's adventurer. Wanted to make sure the Adventurer is the correct model as listed on the site. Also how does the size compare to an HJ? I wear 59 in HJ, but its a little big when new until it shriks. Will I be ok with a 59 in the Adventurer? Is light sable still the color of choice for SA Raiders? thanks!
Re: Christy's Adventurer!
If a 59 in a tad big, I'd go with that. I hit the jackpot going 59, and that's a full step up for me. It took a season of fairly constant wearing, but it fits perfectly now.
Sable and/or light sable seem to be the color of choice - not a huge leap in difference and, in terms of scene specificity, it looks like you can do either or, depending on what look you're going for.

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
Fedora has posted that the Adventurer makes a solid LC ( possibly the same block shape ). I went Raiders with both of mine and would say they're respectable.
This tutorial has been posted and reposted ad nauseum -

...but it seems to be pretty definative. I used it, along with a little extra guidance. You may try PM-ing Erri; he's got an EXCELLENT Raiders style Christys'.

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
My Birthday Adventurer is finally on it's way! I'm excited. In the meantime I had bought a carbon grey fed IV. And looking on getting another one in brown. When I first joined this forum, I was expecting to only have 1 hat!
