Wested ToD nylon lining problems ANYONE else???

Post by HWaltonJonesJr.Phd »

Hellow COW,

I have had my ToD in the closet because the lining comes out of the back and the sides more and more. The (glued) hem in the back has come open and nylon hangs 2+ inches past the bottom of the jacket.

I don't want to send it back just because Wested is like the Bermuda Triangle of Jackets and Correspondence.

It is a DB lamb. Is anyone else having problems?

no Im not happy. im laughing because I have said to people that the glued hem will slip of and the nylon will give.

thats why I laughed. Im not laughing at you or the bad luck you had with your jacket.

it happend to mine to...

but if you took harm by it in any way then im sorry....

I am emotionally unharmed Holt. I think.

I remember the warnings about the glued hem...

It seemed worth the gamble for the prongs and the original hardware...

I got only the glued hem, which failed. The leather is a spongy, paper-thin maroon.

The nylon causes it to slip off my shoulders when unzipped.

I sweated the specs on this jacket for months. Arrrrrrgh.

None of the glued hem has come apart on mine. The lining does bag mostly at the side with the pocket (there is no interfacing in the jacket to help prevent this) and the lining seams in places have started to separate. It is just straight stitched together and the light nylon lining pulls through the stitching fraying the edge. There is no sewn binding of the edge of the seams of the lining to help prevent this.
If you wear this jacket it's going to happen.

I hadn't had any problems with mine yet. But I did keep a cell phone in it the first time (of 2 or 3) that I wore it and I thought it bagged the lining out some. I quit putting the cell phone there for fear of stretching the lining.

My Sleeves both ripped after owning it for one week, and only wearing it a couple of times. I love the leather and the jacket, but I was quite upset about this lining.

I really do not like the the nylon - I am wishing I had tried harder to get Wested to use cotton. I have never had the problem with one of Peter's cotton lined jackets. I know this lining will eventually have to come out and be replaced by a tailor. I really do not want to send it back to Peter. More so than the stitching coming out, you can see the nylon seperating in the stitch holes. The nylon material in my Todd's standard jacket is so much better than this. I have worn that jacket very often with no problems. The good news is my other two Wested's are fine.

I am pretty sure Peter is going to have to make some kind of change to the construction.

yep. I totally agree.

I hate wearing nylon and if I was to order one soon I would demand cotton lining. no matter how un-authentic it is. I want to have the jacket more then one year. I mean it is my choice as the buyer right? there is no use arguing with the costumer if the costumer wants something else.

Now I am really glad I canceled my order with them and had Tony make my ToD. I know it won't fall apart on me. Even after all this plus the other problems they have people still buy those jackets. :-k

I believe even HF didn't like the TOD jacket. Then why should we?
I think it's quite funny that Wested also copied all the mistakes of that jacket.
But in someway I like my washed goat TOD. It was just too expensive for this quality...

We only heard that Ford didn't like the nylon lining. No reason to believe he had any opinion about the design at all.

(Don't forget, Ford also liked the "Hollywood Homicide" script.)

Peter posted he wouldn't change anything (even though the first jackets had wrong vents and collar stand) The lining is apparently the closest duplication of what the jacket had and is different from Wested's usual nylon lining. I would hope the usual lining is more substantial.

_ posted that in his meeting with HF it was said he wore the nylon anyway because the smaller cotton replacement was garbage and pinched.

My Wested Raiders in DB lamb is a work of art. It looks and fits like a dream... the leather, the lining, the construction... nirvana.

IMO, that's why you roll the dice with Wested.

I would buy another one of these (just to have an example of the jacket from the movie) if Peter would just put a cotton/satin lining in it like he offers for his other jackets. But I'm assuming, based on what I've read, that that is an impossibility right? I don't understand that stance. Changing the overall pattern or tweeking it for customers? I can certainly see not doing that as he's been down that road before with mixed results. But why not the lining? I don't want to buy something that would require a tailor in a matter of weeks.

I haven't had any problems with my lining and I've worn my ToD quite a bit during the winter. However, the black paint is chipping off the sliders on the side tabs exposing the silver underneath. No biggie.

Take a look at the lining inside the sleeves.

Nope, still good as new. No wear at all. However, there is some SLOPPY stitchwork on my the lining of the right sleeve that I never notice until I turned them inside out. #-o
