Todd's custom--new pattern

Post by crismans »

I thought I'd put this in its own thread because I haven't seen anyone discussing the pattern change on Todd's custom jackets (I'm not sure if the change is carrying over to the Standards). My favorite Raiders jacket has always been the Temple jacket and I love the collar on that thing. I've always thought about getting a Todd's custom (I've had a couple, second hand, so the fit was just off on both) as I think his jackets absolutely scream Raiders. So I called to discuss with him whether or not he could modify his pattern to get a better approximation of the temple collar. I was quite happy to hear that he had already modified the pattern to get that bigger looking collar. So I decided to order and am very glad I did.

I got the jacket a little over two weeks after I ordered. First of all, the leather is amazing. I got the washed cowhide and it is thin yet feels really durable. It drapes and creases like a dream and has some wonderful grain to it. I've not tried this one out yet but I did really beat up on one of my other customs and it took it unfazed so I'm not worried about durability. As for the collar, I really think Todd has nailed the temple look with this one. Really looks the part.

If I have any hesitation, I think the jacket may be a little short. Not bell-hop jacket short or short where any "normies" would even take a second look but I think it hits me about .5 inch short to be totally SA (the jeans I'm wearing exacerbate this some in the pic). No problem though as I love this thing and it will rotate with my TN Raiders as my "cool" weather jackets. I wear the TN up to the door and then wear this one inside--just like in Raiders!!! :H:

Here's a few pics:

I would love if Todd's offered that leather in the standard.

Holt, as resident collar expert, I was wondering what you thought of the new collar pattern (I'm going to post a couple of more pics--Mitch Larue style--as soon as my wife feels better. I had to do the timer method with these).

I think that's the most Raiders-ish jacket I've seen you in. The color is a bit lighter, but the cut is pure Raiders - it looks great. As for the color, while not what I remember on the screen, it's beoootiful. What a nice rich leather. Congrats!

I think it looks very good. I don't think it's too short at all. Your pants are too low though, at least the pockets, and that as you say, exacerbates the effect.

The collar looks a lot like your TN collar. How do the collars compare dimensionally?

cris, I thought after buying your TN Raiders, you wouldn't have the "hunger" anymore to go out and get another Indy jacket..........it's an obsession, isn't it? :D

BTW, how did you explain it to your wife that after forking over $1K for the TN, you needed another Indy jacket? (just for further reference should I ever need it :D )

Thanks for the kind words. It really is a very nice jacket. I'll get some collar measurements vs. the TN I and some better pictures of the collar tomorrow.

It's definitely an obsession. My original goal was to get a jacket from each movie but I seem to keep overloading on Raiders jackets. I do plan on trying a Magnoli LC in the future because I have heard good things about them and want to check it out for myself.

My wife and I have a joint account and each have a separate account. We each get two checks a month and one goes in the joint, one in the personal. Once I've paid my personal bills, then I can spend whatever I want with the remainder (although I always try to leave a good cushion). So, you see, she knows that the CS jacket was around $700 and she thinks the TN I is in that area too. So, what she doesn't know doesn't hurt me! :Dietrich:

Love the way Todd gets the collar to go flush against the neck. That's the way I always remember it in Raiders, despite the collar stand. This one really lays down nicely. Excellent. The key I think is to not make the collar leather too thick. Then you can pop it up in the back to keep the spiders out but still have the front down.

I'm training the collar for just that effect. No one but me will know the pure (and sad) bliss I'll have when I get that look down.

Beautiful looking jacket. So is this how Todd is doing all of his custom jackets now? Looks like I'll be inching closer and closer to Todd's for my first real jacket purchase.

That's a great looking jacket! Todd does good work. Does the strap have the "K" stitching or the "X"?

My new Standard has texture, but not as nice as this!

I think the collar looks good. might need some training though.. and the color looks to brown but that is just the flash that makes it look like that right?

anyways. congrats on this awesome jacket!

I agree on the collar. The potential is definitely there but it needs a little training to get the look exactly right. It does appear more brown in the flash. The color is lighter than, say the G and B goat but darker than authentic lamb.
