Guess what I'm wearing....

Post by Mike »

Oh, just a silky, little off-the shoulder number.... oh wait, wrong forum.

As of this morning, after almost a 2 year absence, I have my original FS Seal Brown Goat, back on my... well, back.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank an extremely kind and generous individual who offered an extremely amazing and selfless trade in order to give me back this well travelled ( ) piece of leather. I'd like to say publically that I'm really indebted to you for your generosity, as well as the friendship that we've developed over the years.

To make this post a little less cryptic and maybe a little more interesting for the rest of the forum, I'm really surprised at how soft and supple the jacket has become since first leaving my possession. It's also developed a nice patina along the seams and edges of the leather to show it's wearing in nicely. I'm truely proud to have her back in my possesion. She won't be leaving again.

It's probably nicely and naturally distressed from all those years riding around in boxes on U.S. mail trucks. (grins) We're going to hold you to that, Mike. Keep that dang thing either on your back, or in your closet WAITING to be worn from now on!!! Regards. Michaelson

And who is the individual? Dumb question, ill probably get " that person wishes to remain ananymous...." :-# :)

It is always nice to want something so badly, and to finally get it!

Score!

It has been covered, but the quick and easy version is that I was out of work from my regular field of expertice for about 8 months and took to construction to help keep money coming in. Money was extremely tight, and I lost 20+ pounds hauling lumber through two summers and a winter. Well, to help ease finanaces more, I sold off some collectibles and a motorcycle. The jacket was one causalty of that clearance since due to the weight loss, it hung like a tent. There's a few posts in the archives about the jacket bouncing back and forth between a couple of owners down south.

Actually, I don't know if he wants to remain anonymous or not, never discussed it with him. Just thought the thank you would mean more if it was directed just to a certain moustachioed individual.... wait, did I just give something away?

And it's not that I wanted it back so badly. To tell you the truth, I never expected to see it again after I sold it. I did, however regret seeing it go as it had a special history behind it. It and Lee Keppler's were the first two Seal Brown Goats FS offered. In fact, we had to keep it on the hush-hush for a while, because they didn't have the hides for production runs of the jacket yet.

So it was more an unexpected kind gesture from a friend who knew the history behind it, which makes the gesture that more special. And this is why the jacket won't leaving my stable again.

So ...did you gain the weight back so it fits better, or is it just a part of your collection that will be treasured, but not worn?

I gained some but not all back... thankfully. I was dreadfully out of shape so the manual labor was really a blessing of sorts. I'm about the same as when you stopped by. I think I got too skinny. I was almost at my high school weight, but I am considerably taller than I was through school, so I looked a wee bit too thin. The jacket is a little big for the Indy purists (not pointing any fingers, mind you  ) who like the form fitting look, but will serve well as a winter substitute where I can wear something thick underneath.
