Adventurebilt liner

Post by The Librarian »

I saw an Adventurebilt on ebay in my size for $150.00. The lining is almost all white with just what looks like the logo. No staff of ra or anything. Also the sweatband says "Adventurebilt Hat Co. Handmade Fine Fur Felt." I'm just wondering if this is a rabbit felt fur. The shape looks KotCS as the pinch is not tight as on a Raiders'.
Not going to post link as I'm not sure I'm allowed and, as the auction just started, I don't want to run the price up.

I had saw the hat as well. Looks like it may be a Magnoli HJ/Adventurebilt hat, because it has the HJ liner it in, if u look closely. Doesn't look like a Raiders bash though.

If it's the one that just has "herbert johnson" in gold script on the white liner, it's hard to say what it is. If it's actually an HJ, then it's rabbit felt. But it could be an AB beaver felt with an HJ liner. My Magnoli/HJ has the maroon oval on the liner, but that doesn't mean anything. I would ask the seller point blank to clarify exactly what he's offering if want to bid.

That said, it will be a good deal if it stays under $250. I'm betting not.

I sent him a question about whether it's a rabbit or beaver felt.
Thanks for the responses, everyone. Enen if it's a rabbit, it'd be worth it to have a hat shaped by Steve. Will just keep my eye on it and watch the price.
Marty

P.S. The seller raves about the felt used in the film hats without saying that this is from the same felt. Then says the hats is identical to a Raiders' hat but it clearly isn't. Also implys the HJ liner was put in for tradition's sake. I'll be cautious.

The liner of my AB Henry is plain white, with no logo or printing. The sweatband has printed on it Adventurebilt Henry Fine Beaver Blend Felt (or something like that; I'm not wearing it today).

Are you referring to the Ford Felt AB a member here was selling on the bay, or is it another hat?

Regards, Geert

EDIT: ok foun what you were talking about. Strange hat :-k it has an AB sweat but a HJ liner :-k I have heard of someone here who had an AB sweat in his Mag/HJ, maybe the same kind of thing?

The seller replied to my question on the felt. It is rabbit.
And the auction states it was "Handmade by Steve Delk."

Well, it's either the rebuilt Magnoli HJ (as stated above), or one of Steve's rabbit fedoras he made last year.

Either way, one is hand made, and the Magnoli-HJ is a complete overhaul-rebuild, so technically it's hand made too.

Just go over to e-bay, search for "Adventurebilt", and it should be the only item for the search.

Got it. I think it's a MAG?HJ that Steve put one of his sweatbands in. I can tell it's Steve's work from the ribbon and bow.

That does look like a SoC bashed hat. It just has a very relaxed pinch. For $150, thats not bad. I wouldn't pay much more than that for HJ felt, though. Seeing as though Steve has made this baby by hand, though, I'd pay the $340 that Magnoli is asking for them now. You get the same hat without the wait. If I hadn't just ordered a Penman Watchmen hat, I'd consider this one. It looks very nice.

That is what I was going to say, I remember Steve saying sometimes he uses his sweatbands in the Mag/HJ's. I have a Magnoli HJ made by Steve, but it does not have Steve's sweatband in the hat, I have the Magnoli one in it.

Didn't Bernie Pollack find some vintage white HJ liners and put those in since he wanted them to be white onscreen? I probably have that story all mixed up, probably how rumors get started. [-X Actually, now that I reflect more didn't he instead darken the white AB liners so they were not as bright onscreen? I think my second story is the accurate one. :anxious:

I put my bid in 3 seconds too late. :(

(I tuned in just as it was ending and tried to bid as fast as I could...)
