Wested Shoulder pads....a question
I've looked in the archives and can't find out if anyone has successfully removed the shoulder pads off of the older Wested Jackets. I have one and love the leather - it's breaking down nicely - the shoulder pads are not noticeable (not like a flock of seagulls thing) --I think it woould be better to remove them and was wondering if anyone has done that and if it worked out. In other words did it wreck the shape of the jacket?

Yes they did.....more like you'd find in a suit...not huge obvious ones. I am sure they were SA

Re: Wested Shoulder pads....a question
yeah, no tall tale, they really had them, so I hear and have seen some photos, not sure what those were for, maybe to help make manly shoulders? Does anyone know the history of how those got started, did wested originally get requests for them back in the 80's or something?

Re: Wested Shoulder pads....a question
I don't know why they had them - I just picked this one up a year ago - the leather is wonderful but the pads drive me a little insane.

Re: Wested Shoulder pads....a question
I have a 2007 Wested OTR that came with shoulder pads. At first sight they were almost unnoticeable, but the jacket gained a lot when I removed them.

Re: Wested Shoulder pads....a question
Yes. It surely does. Although those were really tiny pads... But I knew they were there and noticed how the shape and draping on the shoulders was somehow strange. You know what I mean. Now that I have removed them everything seems Ok. No problems with the shape of the sleeves, nor with its length.

Re: Wested Shoulder pads....a question
Maybe what I'll do is some pre pad removal and post pad removal for the boards and further reference. I will try and snap some pre pictures this weekend and post them up.
Re: Wested Shoulder pads....a question
In the motorcycle scene in LC, it really looks like the jacket has shoulder pads!

Re: Wested Shoulder pads....a question
I had a ROLA that I removed the pads from, and I also think it made the jacket look better. just be careful when you take them out that you don't cut the stiching holding the lining to the shoulder seams or the lining could slide out the bottom of the sleves.

Re: Wested Shoulder pads....a question
Good point. I think I'll take it to this great leather alteration place in Vancouver. The guy's shop is right across from the Bridge studios - he's built and altered alot of stuff for SG-1, Wolverine, Watchmen, and lots of other films.

Re: Wested Shoulder pads....a question
my wested goat had shoulderpads too. I removed them, because near both armholes there already were holes in the lining and I gently removed them. It was ofcourse later that for some scenes they where SA but they looked silly on my build
Re: Wested Shoulder pads....a question
OK, let me caution you guys who are removing the shoulder pads........you realize that just a few of these exist.......they were shipped by mistake........were actual unused stuntman jackets from the production .....one was auctioned for charity for $ 55,000 by Lucas.........

Re: Wested Shoulder pads....a question
Actually, they've inserted two other devices in the jacket to give it that look.
They're called shoulders.
They're called shoulders.

Re: Wested Shoulder pads....a question
Sorry, but I don't see shoulder pads on either of the pics. I received a jacket from Wested with shoulder pads and I sent it back right away! As far as I know there shouldn't be any shoulder pads in the jacket, right?

Re: Wested Shoulder pads....a question
I DONT see ANY pads in the shoulder area at all.
were do you have this from?
I also talked to peter about why he made shoulder pads in the of the racks some time ago. I ask if this was done on the originals too.
he confirmed that there were NO pads on the original jacket. he said he could bet his right hand on that.
the reason why the of the rack jackets have the pads is because that is a normal thing to have in the jackets in India.
case closed.

Re: Wested Shoulder pads....a question
So, when exactly did Wested start putting shoulder pads in their Indy jackets? And when did they stop, if they have?
Was it only the outsourced 'Off-the-rack' jackets that had them fitted?
What a bizarre company. I can't believe even one jacket was sent to a customer with shoulder pads, let alone many jackets
to many customers over a period of months or years.
Surely Peter would have noticed and said 'Oi! No more shoulder pads in my jackets, please!'. It boggles the mind.
