If interested, just use paypal and my email address, sdelk@cableone.net to pay me. Email me your specs, and info. If not, I will put these up and save em for a future sale.

I found 6, but one I am keeping for me. It is not for sale. Thanks. Steve

Ok, for clarification, even though this hat wasnt made on Fords block, it WAS made on a block utilized for production. As Steve stated above "the block I used was not a replication of this block, but an original, and one that I actually used to create the film hats. I sent Ford's size,(22 7/8) then 23 incher(s) several 22 1/4, and a several 7 5/8." So, even though this hat wasnt made in Fords size, I still would consider it an "SA Production" size. Perhaps one of the 7 5/8 ended up on a stuntmans head but thats just speculation at this point.

Anyway, here are some more shots of this hat taken in natural light. Its sitting atop Todds (or rather Dorfman's) hat stand which I think it an excellent accessory for hat owners to have. Here they are

There were several made in 7 5/8 for stunt doubles after stunt men kept dropping like flies during production, yes.

I see. If you have the hat made to Fords specs, then Steve could use the "ford block", otherwise he has different blocks for different hat sizes. Am I wrong here? I don't have a fedora, so I am not sure how it works. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(In News Announcer Voice) And in other news, a daring attempted robbery involving a prized fedora took place at a fullerton home today. The two theives scaled a 10ft wall lined with razor sharp barbwire, tranquilized the on-site attack dog and used a rocket propelled grenade launcher to break into the home. Unfortunately, due to blood loss from climbing through the razor wire and the after effects of a tranquiler dart which missed the dog and hit one of the culprits in the neck, both men were found at the crime scene unconscious, the fedora clutched in their hands...hahaha LOL

Wow, dude you got the rare hat of the group. This hat was the sample hat that accidently got picked up and aged and dyed by the girl at Western Costume. It had the Staff of Ra Headpiece on the liner. This hat is the shorter one that appeared in the film, once outside and once inside. And the first hat grabbed and used at the beginning of the filming in Hawaii. And the ONLY hat that had the AB logo on the liner. Once Bernie got the hat back, he then noticed the Staff of Ra crest, and that was when he knew the sample hat was sent to the film site. But the footage had been shot, so he put it back to re-use it in the inside scenes, for continuities sake. Congrats on owning the rarest hat of the group!!!! The number 3 hat as noted on a certain part of the hat.(can't divulge too much info on this for apparent reasons.)
Thanks, NOW I recall that. Like I said, some things I have gotten a bit foggy on.

And whomever called me and left the nasty message, in regards to this hat, I DON'T TAKE CALLS ABOUT POSTS ON ANY FORUM! Period. I don't have time for that sort of bullcrap. And if you want to sue me, as you mentioned, go for it buddy!

Personally I would have never bought a hat from Western Costume, and I reckon I will call Bernie to see if he gave that one away to settle this mess. If not, well, a lawsuit may be in order, but you won't be doing it. They will. Lucas got some deep pockets. I was out of this deal, as soon as I mailed them the hats. So sue me. I am innocent, as I just wrote what I recollected, at the time. Geez. Fedora

I just wonder why everyone gets so offensive about what is more SA. I regret placing the title at the "MOST SA CS Fedora" as the title of this thread. Steve is a great guy and makes some of the best quality hats on the market. The fact is, that this vintage white liner was used on MOST of the hats and was seen on screen. However, new testimony is coming to the surface which suggests that a liner with the standard AB Ra logo was in the film, although this wasnt seen on screen. I think what it comes down to is which is the more rare hat. In that case, its this one. But thats not to say that standard ABs lack quality. They are fantastic hats and a pretty darn SA to boot! I hope I didnt open a huge can of worms and I think there are some other seperate issues regarding other fedoras (i think). if thats the case, they belong in another thread as Michaelson already stated.

All in all, I am eagerly awaiting to see the other 5 "whities" (because of their white liner, duh  ). I requested a CS bash. Did anyone get a raiders idol or perhaps even a raven Bar?

I think you shouldn't have any regrets about naming the thread, as it is correct in a way. Since both liners were used in the movie, then both kinds would be screen accurate. However, since this vintage liner was the one used on the majority of the fedoras, then that would make an AB CS fedora with that specific liner the 'more' screen-accurate one... Hence, it wouldn't be far off to say that this would be the MOST SA CS Fedora... ;)

I agree that it would completely defeat the purpose, and that's why I'm getting both of mine done CS style! ;)

But I think it would be a little cool as well, because if you think about it, you'd most likely be the ONLY owner of that limited run to try something different! I mean, I can respect that, especially since that individual wouldn't be a zombie following the pack (which I'm guilty of ;)), but rather, someone that takes Indy's style (as well as S.A. materials!) and makes it his/her own.

I find it interesting a hat would be sold by Western Costumes like that. I was under the impression that all the costume pieces were being saved for another movie. Then again, maybe since this hat was a development sample that wasn't supposed to be used they decided to let it go?

In another thread it was mentioned that one hat had gone missing.

Here is some info on the blocks used for the film.

At the time that I sent in a "different block" I had a size 7 1/4(but marked as a 7 3/8), a size 7(actually between a 7 and a 7 1/8 in actual size) and a size 7 5/8, that was correct in the circumference for that size. As soon as that block was chosen, much to my surprise, I had Lamode run me other sizes in case they were needed. He put this on the fast track for me.

I was a bit concerned about Lamode not being able to replicate the vintage block to the detail, and used the Ford block to make the 22 7/8 used for Ford, along with the 7 3/8 hats for the stunt doubles. For the smaller hats, I used the size 7 block. Later on, it was a coincidence that one of the replacement stunt doubles had a hat size of 7 5/8, and lucky for me that I had this block in stock, an original vintage block that came with the other blocks used for this film.

John Williams also wore a 7 5/8 hat, and I was able to use the original block for his hat too! In fact, every hat we made for the film used the vintage blocks.

Lamode did any excellent job in replicating the vintage blocks. His replicator machine was working well for this quest, and I must admit I was indeed worried that he could do so. I can't tell any difference in the block shape of what I got from him, versus the vintage blocks.

All of these blocks were 6 inch tall blocks. I blocked all of them at 6 inches, and then shrunk them up to the 5 1/2 crown height requested while still on the block. But that is how I was making my hats already. I think shrinkage while on the block makes a more stable hat, over time. Felt shrinks, it is the nature of the beast. It is much more convenient and faster to just use a 5 1/2 tall block for a 5 1/2 tall hat, but my hats are not about quickness, although it is tempting to speed up the process when you have a huge backlog like I do. But, I just can't do it!!

When LLS came over to learn how I make hats, I taught him this manner of blocking. He is currently using this technique, which gratifies me. Now, this should be my trade secret, and if we had not made the Indy 4 hats, I probably would not even mention it!! No one else blocks hats using this technique, but should do so, IMO. Modern felt really needs all of the tricks you can pull out of the proverbial hat!! Fedora

All that talk about blocks went straight over my head, but that may be because I'm head over heels in love with the master's artwork! I can't really say anything else that hasn't been said before about Steve's work, but I can assure you that everything you heard was all true!!!
swa737 wrote:Patiently waiting...still waiting...still waiting...

Shouldn't be too long now, I just recieved my second fedora of the two I ordered, which means #2 and #3 are finally in my hands! Well... not literally, as #2 is actually in the hands of an artisan who is doing something extra special for it! From one master craftsman to me then to another master craftsman! Then back to little ol' me again... ;) :P

Once I get it back, I'll be sure to post pictures of frankly the most amazing and screen-accurate fedora I've ever held in my hands! Who would've thought I would see a spitting image of Indy when I looked in the mirror! Well, at least from the eyebrows upwards... ;) :P

I am rather curious though about the liner though. Many (including Steve) mentioned that the liner seems to be made (partially) from tissue paper, and I'm wondering if it actually is a kind of tissue? If so, I'd assume that it would have a limited lifespan if used and abused, as I doubt tissue paper really lends itself to re-use... Although when I get my clothes back from the cleaners, I occasionally do find a dry-cleaned tissue paper in my pocket, so... :P

I would assume that he had it sent to Marc to have it worked on by him that way both the master hatters of Adventurebilt would have worked on the hat. At least, thats all I can think of.

Reblock it. Put on a new ribbon. Who knows? I would assume that if another hatter is working on it it would be Marc, that way both CS hatters would have worked their magic into the hat making it the ultimate CS fedora.

Just the Tony Nowak Bug has bitten me bad (and, go figure, the one leather I like most is the most expensive! CURSE YOU SHRUKEN LAMB!!) Anyway, I raised the price on it a little. If it doesnt sell here, I have no problem to pack this baby away and sell it in ten years.
