Step By Step: Making my first snakewhip

I had been thinking of making my own whip for awhile but it wasn't until Wayne (aka PropReplicator) posted the pictures of the snakewhip he made that I took the plunge into making my own.

Cool - how long did the process take?

I never really kept track of the # of hours but it probably took me about 3-4 days on weekends to finish it. Probably half of the total time was spent doing the 12-plait overlay. I was really conscious of getting a tight plait and making sure to get the seams as straight as I could so I really took my time doing it.

Very nice - looks like it was time well spent. Where did you learn how to plait a whip in the first place? Book? Video?

I apologize for grilling you on this, but I'd like to try my hand at this as well.

Thanks, Jeremy! The best resource I had in learning was Ron Edwards' book "How To Make Whips". The book covers everything you need to know and is chock-full of illustrations. The illustrations are especially good at showing how to plait and where each strand goes in the process.

So, I learned how to plait from the "How To Make Whips" book but for the construction of my snakewhip I followed the steps Wayne Miller used to make his, which he posted on here several weeks ago.
