TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
Hey,
This goes out to all those who own an Indy I from Tony. I've seen many pics of all the TN jackets members here have, but unless I missed it, I've never seen a pic with the jacket zipped and the arms straight out. Everyone who has one raves about the fit and the custom features, but how are they in the "squirrellage" department? Is the cut & fit of the jacket so good that these have absolutely NO squirrel effect? I'm hoping that the answer is yes, because I'm leaning more & more towards ordering one in that dark brown goatskin Tony has been offering. So if anyone who has one of these fine jackets could post a pic in this pose, that would really be helpful.

Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
I think me he means the flying squirrell effect
jacket zipped half way and arms raised horizontally of the body.
I'd like to know as well does the TN have 2 piece gussets?

Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
The TN-1 has a one piece gusset. When I zip up mine and extend my arms, I don't get any flying squirrel effect. I'd still like to see a photo representation of it, though, to be sure I'm thinking along the same lines.
Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
No flying squirrel effect for me, either...
Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
I hope Holt doesn't mind the borrowing of his pic, but here is an example of no flying squirrel effect and the flying squirrel effect side by side...
Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
Very minimal on mine.

Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
YOWZA! Yeah, no squirrel on mine.
Here's a December shot of my TN-1. It was a short tripod I had at the time, so the photo angle is a bit off. (Why do I have this sneaking suspicion that this picture will be used in other tired arguments? ) Anyway...

Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
I would think that 'squirellage' depends not so much on the vendor, than it does on the cut/measurements requested. If you, for example, order a jacket with a much larger upper body that tapers down to a small waist, then the effect may be inevitable.
Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
True to an extent, but it depends more upon if the gussetts work, and the angle that the sleeves attach to the body...

Sounds like you've been talking to a fortune teller ...
Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
Hey Bink,
What is the difference between your chest measurement and the pit-to pit on that jacket? I'm trying to get all my specs straight before finally ordering a TN...thanks.

Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
Jase, when I ordered mine, Tony had me measure the pit to pit from a jacket that fit me comfortably and he just did the rest. It fits me beautifully. I'm trying to measure it now, but it always mixes me up as to where to actually measure it from, so I don't want to give you something that's a wrong measurement, even if it's off by an inch. Besides, knowing folks around here, it would only lead to more silly conspiracy theories and more endless beating of dead horses. But I wear a 40, and Tony just had me give him some basic measurements (a lot less than I anticipated) and he took care of everything else. What I got was a jacket that fit me just like it should. Trust him, he knows what he's doing.
Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
Yeah, that's what I keep hearing, but I'm afraid that it's going to mislead me into providing too little info & not getting the exact fit I'm looking for. I'm torn between under-doing & over-doing it on the specs! I suppose i'll have to give him a call & leave it up to him as to how much info he needs...

Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
Umm.. how many times in a day do you stretch your arms out like that anyway? This reminds me of someone with an ache or pain who do exaggerated things and say it hurts when they do that.
But, if I had an occupation that required much wide armed poses, I wouldn't want squirrellage.

Maybe like if you were one of those guys with the pointy lights on the airport tarmac...

Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
...or if you like to whipcrack in your jacket without it binding at the shoulders & armpits -- it's more a question of whether or not the jacket is cut correctly to give you enough mobility, rather than "can I stick my arms straight out without stretching the body of the jacket out with it..." Too me, the difference can be compared to trying to play a sport in a jacket made to play sports in, or trying to play a sport in a restrictive suit jacket...or, the difference between a dress jacket and an adventure jacket.Yojimbo Jones wrote:Maybe like if you were one of those guys with the pointy lights on the airport tarmac...

Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
I was mostly joking before Jace. So please don't think I misunderstood where you were coming from. I just found Holt's photo reference shots humorous looking. I know exactly where you're coming from. I think the Wested I had squirreled on me come to think of it.
Should have added a few more smilies to illustrate my humor, and been clearer in my understanding.

Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
Also in seriousness, the big issue of squirrilation is that it's a symptom of too much excess leather in the chest / torso area, which to me looks bad. I'd also not be surprised if it didn't make it more difficult for the nice, open chested look (where there's a gap in an open zipper) when wearing the jacket unzipped.
Just remembered your initial question ( at myself) - zero squirrel effect on mine.

Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
Jace, I admit I was a bit worried at first, so I asked him if he needed additional measurements. I went ahead and told him I wore a 40 jacket. I told him what my body type was. He just told me not to worry and that he'll get it right. When I slipped on the jacket for the first time, all my fears melted. He nailed it for me. It never hurts to share your concerns with him. He'll take care of you.Tyrloch wrote:Yeah, that's what I keep hearing, but I'm afraid that it's going to mislead me into providing too little info & not getting the exact fit I'm looking for. Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
I totally agree with Bink. I was scared to death after I got off the phone with Tony because I didn't think he asked me enough stuff. I mean, I was sinking a grand in this thing and I just knew the fit was going to be off somewhere.
Not at all. The fit is outstanding. Just give him the measurements he asks for and you'll be fine. (No squirrelage on mine either, by the way).

Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
No offense taken. I just wanted to be sure that I got some serious answers along with the joking around, unlike when I aksed what type of payment TN accepts...(I got all sorts of answers, like your first born, a shrubbery, etc)theinterchange wrote:I was mostly joking before Jace. And thanks to those who did comment on the lack of "squirrellage" on their Nowak Indy I's -- it is appreciated as well as relieving... If anyone else would like to post a pic, as Bink did, it would be further appreciated...

Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
But seriously I hear the new Squirrel leather is amazing....especially predistressed....
Re: TN Indy I and "Squirrellage"
Yes, but all those tiny little hides ... Frankenjacket is the only option then. (unless it's for a 12" figure)
My TNs show no Squirrellage. Between single gussets, smaller arm holes, and vertical sleeve seams, it doesn't seem to be an issue. I also like that there's no flare out at the bottom, front or back.
A custom fit goes a long ways.
