My Girlfriends new custom Indy hat.
after putting my camptown on my girlfriends head (and telling her she looked really cute wearing it) she told me she wanted one for herself. Ever the obliging boyfriend, i decided to get her one, then i changed my mind and decided to make her one! so i bought a couple of hat bodies, sweat bands, satin etc. i even had to make a new block for her 56 cm head.
here it is, my first hand made Indy style fedora:
i know the crown is a little low but i thought a really tall crown would look kinda cartoonish on her. She wanted a Raiders style but i like a LC-ish flanged brim, so she got a hybrid of the two. general raiders pinch with a somewhat LC brim.

Looks pretty alright! Could you step back and do a couple more pictures so the crown and brim are less distorted; more correct? Maybe just a few of the model....
It sure seems like there'd be some kind of a demand for the lower, less tapered crown for the particularly self conscious, or simply for those who's face it would better accomodate. Good job.

I'll say! I'm impressed! My one complaint about my own fedora (Fed IV) is that the crown looks too tall for me, so I like the modification you've made. A second thumbs up from another gal!

Looks great! I've always loved the way women look in hats. Something sexy about it.

Re: My Girlfriends new custom Indy hat.
thanks for the compliments!
Kiltie... i'll take some more pics from further away. there is some paralax happening in those pics.
Canyon... it's the second hat i've made. but the first Indy hat. the first one has an indy look to it but it's also got a shorter crown and shorter brim because the hat body was too small to make a proper indy fedora. i'll take some pics to show you if you'd like.

thanks Gil!
ha, i think of it this way: in fifty years when we're old and grey and living in a retirement village, you'll recognize us easily. we'll be the only 80 year old couple wearing matching adventure gear instead of track suits!

Re: My Girlfriends new custom Indy hat.
First of all, it's awesome that you have a girlfriend who gets involved in your hobbies!
Second of all, that's a pretty snazzy looking lid you've made there - clearly Indy inspired, but not a clone. My only criticism is that I don't really like the ribbon - you could probably find something far better, but that's just me. -M

thanks M!
the color is very off in the photo, the felt is a bit more chocolatey and the ribbon is black offray ribbon in person. the color bleached out in the photo.

It looks like good work, Eye. Good instincts one the crown.
If I could offer a small bit of constructive criticism... it could just be the angles and close-up shots, but it looks like the brim might benefit from a very slight trim to balance out the shorter crown. Then again, if she likes lots of brim who cares about balance, right? Just a thought.

Looks Great
Re: My Girlfriends new custom Indy hat.
dude!
stop it now! Pretty soon she'll have you buying jewelry. And Shoes.
And clothes!
Then an engagement ring....and you'll get down on one knee, as if offering
to let her chop off your head, and pop the question! Stop! Run Forrest! RUN!!
Just kidding. That is awfully nice of you to make her one.
Good looking hat, BTW.

Wow lookin good, the hat i mean. lol
i do think that the brim should be trimed a tad,
it looks a bit too wide in the front.

Aren't women's hats supposed to have the ribbon on the right?
