Wested "soft"goat

Post by moses »

I just goat a Wested in "soft" goat- but to me it feels rather stiff and and a bit like plastic. Can anything be done to make it feel softer and less dry - or is that just how it is with goat? Perhaps I should've bought cowhide?

Beat it up, crunch it up, sit on it, roll on the ground in it, sleep in it, take a shower in it...

If it feels dry you can try conditioning it but I don't think that's necessary, they've already conditioned it before packing it up and shipping it to you.

Goat is remarkably resilient, so you could probably get it wet, twist it a bit as mentioned above, and then put it on to dry out. Then, if it is still hard, try some Pecards Leather products.

I did shower it and scrunch it up to make it look more lived in and I've been wearing for the past 48 hours - it just seems to feel more like plastic than before. And the left action pleat won't fold inwards, it always folds outwards!

Moses, does it have a 'hard shell' surface like original goat of 5-6 yrs ago......it took me a looong time to get that puppy to have any softness....finally went with sand paper ,soak, scrunch, beating on drive way......it's tough to break in but a great tough jacket...much different feel than the newer washed goat......the older also had somewhat of plastisized feel initially......you.ve just got to get through it enough to get some drape and softness....good luck keep us posted

Hmmmm - thought the idea of "soft" goat was that I wouldn't have to go through all that. What with that and the action pleat, I'm not hugely pleased with this jacket.

Im actually a little suprised that it is stiff. my soft goat is just a a slightly grade thicker lambskin.

drapes really good and is really soft.

are you sure requested soft goat?

if you requested auth goat or dark goat you might have the older batch which is way stiffer then the new one.

any pictures?

ohh.. I just read this.

well yeah! you showered it and scrunched it. so automaticley when doing this is ''shock treating'' the new skin. it feels thicker and gets more stiff after it dryes up...

when wearing it a couple weeks it goes all soft and briken in..

but you HAVE to wear it....

I defeinitely ordered soft goat - but it doesn't feel any different to the goat jacket i used to own a couple of years ago. Certainly doesn't feel like lamb. I guess I was given regular goat. Great. :(

There's only "washed goat" and "authentic goat". There's no distinct "soft" goat. You received the authentic goat. And you just wear it for it to soften up.

Here's what Gemma told me:

"All the goatskin we have in stock now is the soft goatskin, this is used for custom orders."

its not a authentic color since it is darker. but not dark as the dark goat. but it is way soft.

Well it wasn't a custom order - it was OTR. But it was called soft goat - whereas the regular Raiders jacket was called authentic goat. I assumed there would be a difference otherwise I wouldn't have ordered it. An expensive mistake.

Ship it back... Or sell it on the classifieds. I'm sure someone will snatch it up.

Ummm, I wouldn't bet on that, C3 -- have you checked the classified's lately? A lot of jackets floating around with no takers...to quote Heyjude7, I think we're in a jacket recession right now...
