My WESTED: A bit older & (I think) ALREADY a little BETTER

Post by Mitch LaRue »

I think maybe I'm either feeling inspired by photos of hankey01's new jacket in his "My first Wested Raiders" thread...
:-k
OR (more likely) feeling inspired - as ALWAYS - by Holt's "Instantly - and with no apparent effort - look a little more like a Jones Boy if you slap on a Wested" photos...
:-k
OR maybe I was just wanting to post some photos updating the look of my Wested.
;)
Either way...
Back on December 15th (of '08) I posted some shots of my Wested - still lookin' pretty shiny and new - in a thread called "My Turn at Bat with My WESTED". One of the last posts was from Weston, and said "That's a superb jacket Mitch! A custom job could not possibly fit better. Now, go get it dirty!"
:whip:
Well, I don't know that I tried to get it dirty on purpose or anything... I know it's gotten a bit wet a few times... And I know that I wear it as often as I CAN (given that it's the Winter months and I live on the East Coast of Canada!) but I think it's definitely starting to feel more and more like the jacket that was made "just for me"... (Uh... even though it was just a 42R off the rack...)
These are some shots taken yesterday... I made a point of getting a couple of shots taken that show off how the arms starting to look a little more "screen accurate" like a lot of you Wested owners have done.
(One thing's for sure: My kid can't wait for me to get my "proper" shirt & pants so I can slap on the satchel & holster and do the complete Gear shoot... and neither can I, to be honest!)
:)
Anyway, please let me know what you think.

Mitch, I've looked over both threads and couldn't see where you said what leather it is. Is it authentic lamb? At any rate, a superb looking jacket.

The more I look at Mitch's and others photos, the more I'm convinced that body shape plays such a pivotal role on how these jackets look (and I'm sure this isn't a great epiphany or anything). Even with jackets cut to the same pattern look better on a more slim physique than a heftier one. Just another reason to keep getting back in shape myself.

Thanks VERY much for the kind words, fellas!
I'm loving this jacket more and more every day and now that the weather's getting a bit warmer, I hope to get a little dust and dirt get on her.
Or maybe THIS is a better way to say that:
Now that the weather's getting a little warmer, I'll soon be getting some dust and dirt on myself... if I'm wearing my Wested when that happens... well, so much the better.
:)

theinterchange wrote:Just to be clear, what jacket is this, Raiders?
The Order Confirmation that Wested E-Mailed me back when I paid for it says that I ordered this jacket as a Regular Size 42 Raiders Jacket in Authentic Brown Lambskin. Hope that answers both of your questions.

By the way, I should take a second to thank my wife for taking those photos (and NO, she didn't TELL me to write that!) ;) But on previous occasions when I've posted photos a few people have had kind words for the pictures... well, my head and shoulders can only do so much with a hat and jacket, the rest is all thanks to my wife... she's got steady hands and magic fingers!
Thanks, sweetheart.

Yeah, she helps provide quality shots of your stuff! What sort of camera does she use?

Your Lamb looks better than the one I had and sold. :-k

It's a SONY Cyber-shot.
The very notion of me pulling on the whole outfit in another month or so and posting some FULL GEAR shots her at C.O.W. is dependent on it being HER taking shots of me with THAT camera.

Mitch ,Great looking jacket.......did I miss is that standard or ROLA special 80's cut......the back shot looks like it's got quite a taper...do you have the side straps cinched up or is it that tapered ??....almost a littlle 'Rocketeer' look from the back........ :)

Thanks, Hatch!
It's just a regular cut (I didn't even KNOW what the heck an "80's Cut" was back when I ordered it)... just got lucky, I guess. Although , in the interest of honesty I SHOULD also mention... I DO keep the side straps somewhat snug... not "tight", though...

I had a Cybershot.. unfortunately in a fit of wanting to liquidate things that sit around.. I sold it on eBay! I've regreted that decision many times. Though I have my Nikon D40, a point and click is nice for many things.

I haven't posted in a while, so forgive the late response, I've just seen this today. Excellent jacket Mitch! This is a very good look for you. Hey, I must have missed it and am probably to lazy to do a search right now, (it was a very, very long day at work!) what is your jacket made out of? Another very nice example of how good these jackets look over time with just your average wear and tear.

Thanks guys for the kind words, they're much appreciated.
If these pictures tell you one thing I hope it's how much I love this jacket!

(By the way, Weston... it's "Authentic Lambskin".)
Oh, and listen, Weston: since you just admitted that it's been a while since you've checked in - and since, like me, you're also a Hat Guy - I want you to know I just *bumped* up my "Penman Hat Shoot" thread in the Fedora Section with you in mind... I'd love some feedback from you if you have a minute.)
Thanks

Great jacket, Mitch. Nice to see some quality pictures for a change. For those cold winter days up in Canada I believe I saw a shearling lined Indy jacket on Magnoli's site!

Hey Gooch,
For better or worse, these photos are a "spot-on" representation of exactly what the color really looks like.

I say for better or worse because I don't know if there's some people who think it's too dark or too light (or whatever)... but I just love it.

For my tastes, it's just perfect!
Thanks for asking.

Hey there PSBIndy,
Thanks for the compliment!
This jacket IS my favorite, but also my ONLY Indy jacket now...
Up until December of last year I had a 15 year old "Official Indiana Jones (Cooper) Cowhide Leather Jacket" but it had always been a little bit big for me (more of a "roomy 42R" than a "snug 42R") - and I'm a pretty DEAD ON 42R... so I sold it here at the Cairo Bazaar to a fellow Member (who - I believe - ended up selling it again because it wasn't quite the right fir for HIM either)...
That jacket went on MORE than a few adventures with me! It had seen quite a few sights! So, I hope it eventually found a good home with someone who took it on a few more adventures.
Here's Link to the photos that were used in the ad:

*A quick interruption on a somewhat related matter*

(The following has been posted here in this thread as well as in my "My Good Ol' Magnoli Herbert Johnson" thread & the "Raven Bar Line Up-Super Coolzado-IT'S A (RAVEN) BAR FIGHT!!" thread.)

Hey folks,
Just a quick note from me on an unusual topic... but it might be of interest to some on you (I'm posting it here in one of the threads that prompted this because I realize that this subject I gave it it's own thread in separate forums it would likely get locked up faster than you could say "skinjob".)
;)
First of all, I just want to say a heartfelt thanks to those C.O.W Members who have not only had kind words to say here on these Boards about the photos I've been posting, but also in the many pm's I've received over the last several weeks.
Your compliments and encouragement are very flattering...
So, naturally I want to let you in on what OTHER craziness I've been keeping busy with...

As many of you already know, I'm also a member of Propsummit.com as well as a frequent visitor over at Filmjackets.com (Propsummit concerning primarily with all things "Blade Runner" and Filmjackets focusing on... well... Well Known Jackets in Films.)
Recently I'd purchased some articles of clothing that make up the Gear of Harrison Ford's character "Rick Deckard" (specifically, an Abbyshot Deckard Trench Coat V2 and Indy Magnoli's Deckard Blazer, Shirt & Tie.)
For those of you not familiar with Propsummit, like the community here at C.O.W., we'll often post photos of our Gear for the purpose of comment, compliment, critique & criticism.
In keeping with that practice, yesterday I posted a bunch of Rick Deckard Gear shots.
Some members here have urged me to do more photos and while I realize these Blade Runner shots have me without my well-known (locally) trademark fedora OR scruff, they ARE still "Harrison Ford Themed"... So, I thought that maybe 1 out of 5 of you might be interested.
Now, some of the photos are a bit dark and murky (but I love them because they're moody and I think they give the shots more atmosphere.)
:)
Like many of us here, there are members there who are fussier than others about certain details might be also be tempted to point out a few problems in the finer details of my outfit - so for those of you who ARE familiar with some of the details of Deckard Gear, I feel I should say, I DO know my pants aren't quite Screen Accurate - but I like these duds... a lot.
My main goal with these photos was to show my BR Gear and how they all interact with each other in different settings (and types of lighting).
At Propsummit.com you'll find the threads in the "Replica & Screen Used Costumes" Forum.
If you DO pay them a visit, I hope you like what you see... And feel free to leave a comment or drop me a line if you DO.
All the Best,
Mitch
