Well... one of the speed lace hooks broke off. Oh well... what did you ever do about it. Its no big deal to me, I'll still live without it.

Yeah, I've lost 2 so far, and looks like maybe working on a third. I wouldn't recommend the shoe repair shop route if you care at all about what the finished result looks like. One shop didn't have speed lacers so they put in a brown eyelet, not even close to the same size as the others. Then another shoe repair shop replaced the other missing speed lacer with a speed lacer... that is not even close to the size or color of the others. Apparently my town has never seen shoes this expensive.
I'd call Alden and ask if they would ship you new lacers, and if they are willing, I'd then take the official lacers to a local shop.

That's sad too, as the old craftsmen are slowly retiring or dying out in the shoe repair business. With the advent of the 'tennis shoe' type shoe construction, and our throw away society, the need for that type craft has become less and less. I've been fortunate to find an eldery man who runs his own shop near me, and didn't blink an eye when I first darkened his door with my 405's. When I got them back after being reheeled, you couldn't tell they weren't factory installed, maybe even better. I'm REALLY going to be hurting when ever HE decides to retire. I'm hoping he just lives and continues to repair shoes forever. What do you think the chances? Regards. Michaelson
