Temple of Doom Tux
I am thinking of getting a made to measure version of Indy's Temple of Doom Tux at http://www.mycustomtailor.com/index.php , which will make a suit of any descripton so long as you provide them with one.
To do so, I would need full length photos of Indy. Where could I get them. Or could people please post them here. (Since, I believe, that Rick in Casablanca wore the same suit, full length phots of Bogy would also be good.)
Also, what sort of materials would be best. While one begins with the idea that -within budgetary constraints - the finer the better, this might not necessarily be the case with this suit. This definitely has to be the sort of suit that can face down Shanghai gangsters or the Gestapo.

I almost ordered exactly the same Tux jacket from them but had to spend the money on other things in the end. I am most itnerested in seeing how it turns out.
I think there are differences between the Indy tux and Rick's tux though - go to http://fedoralounge.skyblueproductions.net and look for postings on Rick's tux as a few people have had a replica made.

I did the Temple of Doom tux, check out my current avatar. The main tux pieces are regular tux fair:
Black Tuxedo pants with the Black Stripe
White Tuxedo shirt but NO PLEATS on the front, it's smooth
White Suspenders
Black Vest with 3 buttons (I had to get a 4 button backless as that's all I found at the time)
Black Tuxedo Tie, it's the regular clasp on the side variety
Black Shoes
Black press on studs on shirt
Cufflinks (can't pin 'em down thou... used a pair of my fathers I own)
Jacket - this I had to have custom done. It's an Ivory Dinner Jacket, wool, one button, single breasted jacket with a Peak Lapel. Bogie's in Casablanca was a double breasted with a Shawl Collar Lapel. Four buttons on each sleeve and don't forget the red carnation! My jacket was made by The Magic Wardrobe: http://www.the-magic-wardrobe.com/ The pictures on their site are the prototype, being the jacket I now own. http://www.the-magic-wardrobe.com/Costu ... y=1930%27s
Use the DVD's for reference, as you'll get good shots of the different pieces. Even shots of Willie in his shirt, pants, and jacket help too. Right when he gets on the plane, you can tell the Bow Tie is a clasp on side variety. I've seen pictures in books and on The Raider.net and The Indy Experience showing the white suspenders. Never could tell if the vest was a full vest, or a backless kind. I'm sure it was a full vest, with 3 buttons and a V-type opening in front.
Good luck!

I was waiting for my esteemed colleague, MJ to respond. And he did so eloquently. The key word is "Peaked" lapel collar. For white dinner jackets, "Peaked" lapel collars are as rare as hens teeth. I flat out searched far and wide on the internet, ebay, vintage shops, etc. MJ had is custom tailored.
Now if you want the Bogie jacket, the shawl collar is very common.

Avoid? I thought satin lapels are what makes it a tux - all tuxedos (apart from modern 'trendy' ones) I've seen has them... my black tux has satin lapels and satin stripes down the pant legs...Sergei wrote:That's close, but you need to avoid the "satin" finish on the lapels, pocket liner, etc.
Does Indy's dinner jacket in ToD only have fabric lapels?

Here's a tux offered on MyCustomTailors.com. It seems to me that if we tell them to change the black jacket to white, we have something that looks a lot like Indy's.
In case you folks don't realize, MyCustomTailors can make any order, so it should be very possible to send them a photo of Indy in tux and tell them to copy it. For example, they show a photo of Connery/Bond in a tux as one of their offerings.
So just getting hold of a set of photos of Indy in tux would be great.
How, in detail, would such a tux differ from Indy's?No.7623 - Peak lapel low gorge pleated pant mens tuxedo suit that can be combined with a matching vest for a three piece ensemble

Those two tuxedo jackets are quite easy to find. Any place that sells tuxedos should carry these two styles or at least get them easily.
Actually, the Indy style tuxedo (white/ivory with peaked lapels) is easy to find, but in polyester, not wool. I know because I get brochures from uniform companies every week (at least 3-4 different ones) with this style. However, being 100% polyester and not wool I pass on them. Finding a wool tuxedo with the Indy features is tough.

Cool!
Didn't know that one.
I found a nice site explaining the different parts of the eye:

And a site with some nice pics of it:

That looks like the head of Horus himself though, rather than the eye of Horus.
And I can't really make out the different parts of the eye from the screengrabs. Must put my contacts back in.

I want to believe, but I'm still having trouble catching it...probably just because there are so many slightly variant renderings of the eye. Even in that last pic, which seems like the best one, I can't quite make it out...oh, okay, I buy it, but it look like the just had to roundout the swoop to make it a full disc so it would work as a cufflink. Is that how you are seeing it?
(In that first pic discussing the cufflinks, I thought it was a Star Trek logo, though, so I'm probably not much help here.)

We're not experiencing a "Fedora in Indy's closet"-situation here... the cufflink motif is the Eye of Horus. Maybe it takes an Egyptology dropout to see it...
The cufflink has been shown here before - some time ago, somone posted a very crisp & clear closeup of Indy's cuff - didn't find it in a forum search, though.

Here we go - a little attempt to clarify the mysterious cufflink:
the main parts are the eye itself, eyebrow, lower vertical line and 'swoop'. The screengrabs are grainy and there's a bit of shadowplay going on - especially in the "gropin' Willie-pic" - still, you can recognize the main parts of the Horus eye:
The swoop might be connected to the eyebrow piece, thus ensuring a firmer structure. A nice art deco piece - wonder if anyone could make those...

In my view, Relic Raider is the 'top man' for the job, too... I asked him in an old in an old thread if he'd be interested in making the cufflinks, which he wasn't... at the time...
What say you, Relic Raider? Could this perhaps be a future project?
Please?

You have 'opened my eyes' my friend.
I know a company that does badge pins in any shape, and cufflinks of the same motif if you want to. I'll look into it. The more you order the cheaper they will be. When me and some friends ordered pretty simple round ones with custom relief text in shiny and matte gold colour they were quite cheap, around $15 I think. Keep your eyes peeled.
Some questions though:
Bent locking mechanism with an oval end?
Is it gold and silver or more of a shiny bronze?
It would be great fun to nail this, regardless of who will end up making it.
High regards,
Swindiana

I believe it's either a link connection (guldsmedslås) with an oval end or a small piece of chain attaching the eye and oval. I't definitively gold, or gold plated - has a nice shine to it (bottom pic w/ champagne glass).Swindiana wrote:Some questions though:

The place you ordered your cufflinks from - that would not be Svenska Medalj AB, would it?

I'm not sure where it was from, yet. An ex-fraternity guy had some contacts for discount I think and I have top men working on the info right now. The result was great though, amazing quality for the price I must say. (That is if you are willing to go for brass and not gold though.)
Have you been dealing with Svenska medalj yourself, perhaps?

Upon further investigation, it does look like Indy's vest is three-button and not five-button.
In particular, it appears to be a black version of a type of vest that is very popular in Scotland:
Indeed, as we all know, it is quite possible to create the "Indy-effect" by wearing - say - an A-2, an Akubra, and some khaki pants. In like manner, with such a tartan vest, one could create an "Indy-tux effect" with such a vest, a camel jacket, dark pants and a solid dark bow tie.
Of course you could find a lot more occassions actually to wear such an "Indy-tux effect" outfit than an actual Indy tux. (It has been years since I actually wore a tux.)

No, SJ. If you take a peek on this pic, graciously posted by Idaho Potatoes in a previous post,Scandinavia Jones wrote:Avoid? Does Indy's dinner jacket in ToD only have fabric lapels?
you'll see that the lapels are indeed satin trimmed - just like they're supposed to be on a tuxedo(US)/dinner jacket(BR).
In order to wear a white dinner jacket without making a grand faux pas, one is supposed to live a bit closer to the Equator than you do, Scandy - but of course, this you knew already.
I know I'm late but wow!
Wow COW members we have really have out done ourself!!!
Amazing research!
Correct me if I'm wrong but is the suit ummmm... collar in Casablanca different than the Temple of doom collar.
I don't know what you call the fabric on a siut that goes around the neck then comes down.
Re: Temple of Doom Tux
The bits you're talking about are the lapels.
Indy's dinner jacket has peak lapels, while Rick's has a shawl lapel.
I prefer shawl lapels on a dinner jacket, myself.

Re: Temple of Doom Tux
I still beleive the ToD tux to have NON-satin lapels, as seen here:

I agree. In fact, I don't think white dinner jackets look good with satin lapels. I'm not even a fan of satin lapels on black dinner jackets. I think the Casino Royale dinner jacket is the classiest black dinner jacket anywhere and that doesn't have satin lapels. The only exception is the Dr. No dinner jacket. The satin shawl lapel looks great in that case.

That link isn't working for me.
The cufflinks are available from Magnoli Clothiers in three different finished (I believe the antique bronze is the SA version). He also makes the tux.
