Wested's "worn look hide" looks like?...

Post by ReturningSon »

I noticed that Peter is offering a "worn look hide" option. I did a search and couldn't find any pics of this. Its not noveapelle or HH so, what does this hide look like? Anyone?

Any chance it's the culmination of his search for a supplier of a slightly grainy, stretched lamb to be used in his effort at an ultimate screen accurate jacket?

I received a prompt reply from Gemma this morning to my question about the "worn look hide"...

Holt is right on target:

"we offer a worn look cowhide that is a pre distressed leather. Also we offer a novapelle cowhide which is a distressed finish but more of a smooth finish."

So nothing new - yet.

Thanks Tibor for the info. Does anyone have any pics of the older distressed cowhide? ;)

Is this the new announcement that we've been waiting a month for?

I don't think it is anything new. I believe the worn look hide is the good ole pre-distressed.

The only distressed hide I saw at Wested this Saturday gone was the pre-distressed cowhide. It had the same 'orangey' tint as the one in photos above. Too light for my tastes, but a good looking jacket.

A guy on ebay is selling his wested. He states in the description that the hide is "worn look hide" so I assume this is what it looks like. Might be a good choice for CS Wested jackets?...

used to have one of these. It was a tough jacket, and warm too. A good winter version of a raiders, or even more accurate as a winter version of, say, an LC.

But i like the feel and the drape of a lambskin, and the pre-distressed hide was just tough tough and heavy for my tastes.

Can anyone assure that the "worn look hide" is cow-leather? Is it as thick / tough as novapelle? Nobody who has ordered it yet?

When trying to decide on a hide for my last jacket, Gemma sent me a sample of the worn look hide and some novapelle. Both are cowhide.

The "worn look hide" is dyed a light brown all the way through, then a darker glaze is layed over the top. This causes the lower parts of the grain to be lighter than the top, giving it a dry, cracked look.
It distresses and scuffs quite easilty (which is a plus if you are looking for a jacket to distress).

I did stress tests on both of the samples, and the novapelle is much tougher (however, it is a bit thicker than the worn look).
The novapelle would stretch where as the worn look would tear.

I would rate the durability of the worn look on par with their lambskin.

In the end, I went with the novapelle as it was tougher, thicker, and more like what I was looking for.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the answers. As I read, the "worn look hide" seems to be not very tough and durable. Hm...If only the novapelle hadn't run out of stock ](*,) ] And there's no other hide apart from "worn look hide" which is kind of distressed...

what are you talking about. 'worn look' and 'novapella' is about the same hide. only the NP is not that distressed as the worn look hide is. the NP is a more dusted finish. both are cowhide. both are just as strong...

the worn look hide is on the X jackets.

Holt,

The novapelle I received is deffinately a different hide than "worn look".
It was thicker with a heavier knap on the suede side.
Also, it is more stretchy than the worn look hide.

When I recieved the samples, I did every stress test I could think of, (piercing them with a sharp pencel, stretching them, ripping them....)

However, this is based on the samples that I received.

A question concerning those "samples" in general: How can I get some? How much do they want for them?

I have a nov Indy and a nov XO, and they are not the same. The XO is marble(disstresed after a couple days) and the Indy LC is uniform. A thicker leather, but I do love the XO. My girl does too!
