AB Raiders arrived today

Post by thatguyno1 »

Well the second half of the order from July 07 came in today - my Raider's AB. I feel like I need to tighten the pinch some - what do you think??? It is sooooo nice and soft and putting it on with the turn doesn't feel uncomfortable at all!!

I also like the fact that Steve had some of the old style liners left with the Headpiece of the staff of Ra and that is what he used on this one. My Gray that came in earlier this week had the new logo.

Man that thing looks velvety soft. Looks fantastic, but yeah, you may want to tighten that pinch a bit. Other than that, that hat rocks! \:D/

Cheers!

Nice hat, but for a Raiders look wouldn't you have to tighten the front pinch and top creases??

Raiders? The bash reminds me of crystal skull. It looks like a great hat, just I don't think the bash is what Steve would do for a raiders hat, and yes, as others have said, I don't detect much of a turn, so it probably needs more.

Congrats on two beautiful lids.

I think the turn is working there. Bow is in front of the left ear. The left brim profile is different from the right side. Isn't that the idea?
Extremely Nice hat no 1! Your pinch will sharpen up by sqeezing it there over time, taking it on and off.Or just gently work at it abit. Mine did. The hat brim will curl up more with wear and exposure to weather. (Btw My avatar is my AB brand new)
I should post a couple comparison pics after one year of wear. :-k Hey,That might even be a good thread? Fedoras new vs Fedoras worn a year or so.......
I love that grey you got too. I've got a dilemma now. New grey AB or new Bernardo whip. Dang,I can't get both! ](*,)

I agree - The right side has a nice swoop to it that is much more pronounced than the left. I was kind of rushed to take the pics so I wouldn't lose the late afternoon light and I may not have the hat just right on my head for the maximum effect of the turn. I'm happy with the turn. When I got my first AB TOD it was very stiff and I was a bit concerned about how the turn on this hat would feel when I put it on. Steve is doing something very different to the hats compared to when he made the TOD because it is VERY soft and flexible compared to it. Maybe Steve will jump in with a comment on that aspect. The hat just reshapes itself to my head with no discomfort like I have been wearing it for years. I think I will play with the pinch a bit and bring it down a bit closer to the ribbon. Also I think I will bring the top of the pinch down some to get a little more of a "Y" at the top. The pics don't really show the pinch accurately because it actually is more pronounced than the CS Gray.

Thanks Mitch

I have actually solved the issue of what to wear. I have to wear business casual for work downtown so - the gray when I have on black or blue slacks and the brown for slacks in shades of brown and tan. I am going to try an experiment and see if people at work can tell the difference between the TOD and the Raiders since they are both brown.

Go to the search function and put in "TOD" for the topic; "Thatguyno1" as the author and limit it to the Fedora forum. You should get a pic (I just did).

Actually the Avatar is my TOD but you can't see much detail. I tightened the pinch a little on the TOD but it does have the slight taper (oops - did I just say "taper" in the fedora forum????? )

Wonderful hat indeed! Before you go to work on tweaking it, I'd suggest just wearing it for a while (someone may have already said the same, I didn't read all the thread), see what sort of relation and agreement the two of you come to.

Since no one else is gonna say it, I will (and I hope it's taken the correct way, since I do mean it with all respect):

Paul, your daughter (the Bride-To-Be) looks extremely beautiful in that hat.

I realize she probably won't want to have it on for when you march her down the aisle, but you'd probably better bring the TOD to the wedding just in case she wants to have it on for a few photos with her Grey Fedora wearin' Dad at the Reception!
Somethin' tells me you'll both make for a pretty snappy lookin' pair in the photo.
Cheers,
Mitch

WAIT - are you saying I have a turned CS!!! I say that because the pinch is to the left of center compared to the ribbon on the headband by about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. I guess that is why I thought the pinch needed some work on the front and the top. Now THAT is funny  I may have the only turned CS bashed by Steve (even though it says "Raiders" inside the headband). The pics above show the warping of the brim when I put it on with the crease in front of my head.

And, thanks for all the compliments regarding my daughter. Yes she is a beauty and I don't think I can take much credit for that. You have all seen MY pics so she either got it from her Mother's genes or from the females on my side of the family. She is kind of a mix of her mother when she was young and one of my sisters. She and her grandmother and mother went on a cruise to Alaska and they got all kinds of attention from the crew and waiters on the trip. Later in the year when her grandmother went on that same cruise with other people she wished Kelly was with her because the service was noticibly less attentive!!

Yep, I had 3 hats in the same size that I was working on. I grabbed the wrong one when I made yours, and put the sweat in it. I only caught it when I put the sweat in the next CS hat,(shipped yours already) which was a Raiders blocked hat! I called the guy and he said, send it on anyways as he was tired of waiting, so he got your hat! Since yours is a CS, if you want, send it back and I will unturn it, get the tight crease out and style it in the CS style. Again, sorry about that, and it isn't the first mistake I have made. Sometimes when juggling hats, I drop one. This happened with you. Fedora
