Indys whips

Post by pfcyoung »

Hi!

I have a question regarding the whips used in the films. If I was to buy a whip similar to the ones used in the films what is the standard "indy" whip. I hear things from anywhere between 8-25 ft! I know may whips are used for different scenes but what are the "Specifications" of a standard indy whip?

just curious...

I'm sure there will be disagreements, but as far as I know, for the first 3 movies, the whip was 10 feet on his belt (because it looks more dramatic), and 8 feet for practical use (sometimes it was 25 feet like in Temple of Doom when he swings down to the altar). In Crystal Skull the whip was 10 feet... although there may actually be no whip in CS... #-o

Hope that helps!

Yup, Shane got it right on the head  Regarding CS, I too, was a bit confused as to IF there even WAS a whip (sarcasm) but yes, it is 10 ft on the belt, when Indy whips the gun out of the Russian's hands, and when he is trying to save Mac. There was a 16 ft stunt whip that was used for the "D***, I thought that was closer!" part.
