Well,
I have had my replacement pair of Aldens for a few months now. So far, they are a marked improvement over the last pair, but I have to keep in mind that I am now handling these Aldens with kid gloves based on how rapidly the last pair started to fall apart. I am Pecarding the areas around the lace holes and speed lacer clips after every other wearing. This may seen excessive, but this is the area that once again is starting to show wear and tear like the previous pair - though the extra Pecards is retarding this breakdown (I hope to a suitable degree - but only time will tell.)
Ultimately, I am saddened that "stock" Aldens have lost a bit of quality. My 2001 pair is tough as nails and, incidentally, almost a pound heavier than this new pair! While the new pair has a solid brown color, the quality of the leather is not the same as the 2001 model. I hope the Aldens company takes note of this and starts putting the muscle back into their products. Used to be that the Aldens was the gear piece you didn't have to baby, while the hat and whip were the items of meticulous care. Now, my hat is the least of my worries (a bulletproof AB) and the shoes have become the trouble spot... The times they are a changin'...

I hope your new pair works out great, IndyFrancais. I know that's a bunch of dough on your feet, but go ahead and put 'em through their paces. If you gotta treat 'em with kid gloves, they ain't Indy.

Seriously, in this economy be prepared for anything. Don't look for companies to do anything but cut back as much as they can to increase profits. People selling higher end items will be lucky to even stay in business.

Yes, that's sad but true. The flip side is that those who spend the big money on things are going to expect their items to last and they will (or should) loudly complain if it doesn't hold up.
