What do you guys think???

Post by IndianaCollins »

I am hopefully ordering a FS Expo in the next couple of days, if all goes to plan, and was debating between the goat Russet (I saw Rundquist's expo and A-2 in the russet the other day, and was blown away) or the goat Seal brown? You guys think the russet is an acceptible Indy color? What are y'all's thoughts on this???

I think the russet looks awesome. However, I am most looking forward to seeing Indiana Joe's new predistressed cowhide from them.

Good luck with your choice! And remember, it wasn't too long ago that you didn't have all of these choices... you could be in worse positions ;)

I don't own one so can only speak from the pictures I've seen but I think the Seal Brown looks amazing!

Well, I've not ordered yet, but I just talked to the guys at flightsuits and they said that as of 2 months ago(i believe) the russet has been reserved only for the Mark 31 A2 jacket. So, it looks like I'm going with the Seal brown when I order(tonight or tomorrow).

Hmm. The Mark 31 is speced veg tanned goat. Did they say the vegetable tanned russet goat was reserved or all russet goat (i.e. chrome tanned)?

Cheers,
Harry

They said that the russet(didnt specify which) was resevered only for the Mark 31, so it was not an option. But, the newest news. I personally talked with Ryan he said he'd have to call me back... There's still hope(I hope) for the Russet but there may be an extra charge
.

PS, what's the usual time on getting a regular FS?

If mine arrives on time, it'll be just over two weeks.

I’ve also been interested in G&B’s Vintage Brown and Dark Brown Cowhide, however, in the a style jacket with leather cuffs in place of knit ones, and a few other modifications to get away from the military look of most of my other jackets.

I was also told that the Vintage Dark Brown is a shade or so lighter than the Seal Goatskin, but that it has a slight burgundy hue or cast to it, which makes it look a bit richer than the Goatskin seal to some, and that the Vintage Brown is almost tan in color, and both are really not the pre-distressed or ‘Vintage’ that most of us think of that’s offered by USWings or Wested, but rather is made to distress quickly when worn.

I took this to mean that it has some type of thin protective coating on the surface of the hide that will break-in with time to something like the 50 Mission ‘antique’ look offered by USWings and Avirex (those of us who have one of these will know what I mean) on some of their jacket offerings. After hearing this I started crumpling up the small sample I got, and sure enough it started to get those fine lines of distressing, and became slightly dull in certain areas as the initial sheen broke down, but still looked very good.

This is just the impression I got from talking to a G&B representative since Dave Marshall was not available to talk with at the time, and my time was also limited, so, needless to say, I’m also looking forward to seeing Indiana Joe's Vintage Dark Brown Cowhide as well.

I was also told that there is currently a two week backlog/waiting period when placing an order for an off-the-rack size.

I just got mine in lamb and it was 2 weeks door to door.I called on the Russet and got one in the A-2 and it was already made up in my size and i recieved it in 4 days.I could not be happier with them. The russet is one beauty of a color but the lamb brown is gorgeous as well. I guess you could say i'm one satisfied customer of Flight Suits they give A plus service and Mr. Marshall was a real pleasure to deal with.
