Incoming from a forumite, how to fix satin?
I just scored a Wested Horse from a forumite with cotton body and satin sleeves. There is a slight tear where the satin meets the cotton in one sleeve. Is this a 'home repair' or something that is difficult to have done without sending over the pond?

He didn't say anything about fixing-just that he stemmed the fraying. I used to work in theater, im just not real good with satin type fabrics, or their characteristics so I didn't know if I could just wrap stitch it or something.
In any case im tickled-getting a Wested in a larger size new is like taking a small mortgage out!

Happened to St. Dumas a couple of times. I just took it to a local reputable tailor and they did a great job. And they marveled at the jacket.

Unless you want to take it to a tailor and have it professionally fixed, I don't think you'll need to do anything to it. Like I said, I put a couple of drops of glue to keep the tear (it's actually where the satin is sewed onto the cotton body) from spreading and to prevent the satin from fraying. I've kept a careful eye on it and there has been no change whatsoever.

Cool, good to know. I just didn't know about satins susceptibility to tearing or running further. I know my wife's silk stuff is really a pain if it runs or gets a string out.
