....for a fall? The fall on my Caciedo whip is about 3' 1" long. It's white hide, so it has stretched, but is that too long? I remember seeing 2ft. as a standard fall length. Do I need to trim it down? Is there any advantage/disadvantage to the fall being 3 ft long?

Most of the books I've read say 26" - 30".

I thought that was why he was asking in the bullwhip section?

30 inches for a fall is typical. I cut mine between 34" and 36" and let the user "tune" their whip to the optimum length for them. The fall should continue the taper of the whip out to the cracker +/-. It is not really critical as a good fall will not make a bad whip crack well. If the whip feels a bit "floaty" then it is too long.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I might just trim it down a little bit.

Hey Thanks Strain I was about to say that. Yes I do make them just a bit longer. just to get a feel for the whip. I mean if you lose 6in on a 2 ft fall then that's not good. But on a 3 ft fall then you're right on the sweet spot. Sorry about that IndianaBogart. Email me if you have any questions.

You don't have anything to be sorry for, Gus. The white hide fall has simply stretched after nearly a year, that's all. No fault of yours.Sorry about that IndianaBogart

The falls on all of my whips are at least 3 feet long. Actually, most of them 'fall' somewhere between 39"-40"...(pun intended;)
