My great deal Expedition arrived today

Post by crismans »

I've often thought about getting one of these because so many members speak so highly of them. They've always been on my "to get" list but something has always seemed to come up. Like I said in another post, I have, from time to time, called and checked their clearance jackets without any luck. Last week I struck pay dirt. I got a jacket in my size shipped for half of what the jacket, itself, normally retails. Needless to say, I was a happy camper. \:D/

And now that I've gotten the jacket, I'm even more thrilled. Let me add my voice to the throng praising this jacket. It is absolutely superb. You can just tell it is quality and it feels like a dream. It would be well worth full price and more. I had debated whether to do my normal breaking in wash on this jacket but an errant pop lid coming off and a half gallon of Pepsi running down the inside of the sleeve solved that dilemma. :P

I put up 1 pic (everyone knows what an Expedition looks like by now). May be a touch long in the sleeves but wrinkling should take care of that. This is pre-wash.

Jacket looks good, like it was made for you. From the look on your face though it must have been taken after the 'pop' incident? :|

That is my face after spending the day teaching teenagers world history and Sophomore English!

I really like all the stuff I photograph even though I rarely look like it! :[

Looking good crismans!
Can you make another picture where we could see the grain and color of the leather a bit better?
Thanks.

I actually did mean to take a few other pictures to show fit but the batteries in my camera conked out. I'll get some new ones later and take some closer pictures. Knowing of the Expeditions pedigree for toughness, I threw it in with some jeans I was washing and it looks even better now. A little more rumbled and the wash really caused the grain to pop up.

Congratulations. It’s a perfect fit. The G&B Expedition (in goatskin) is without a doubt the heavyweight champion for the title of “real Indiana Jones jacket”. There is none tougher, period.

What about the US Wings Kangaroo, or the US Wings lined with amarid fabric ones? :)

I've owned them all, and I have to say my G&B goat Expo is my all time favorite Indy jacket. As a matter of fact, it is a very rare jacket I bought from Rundquist. It has a red lining, and it looks amazing.

All kidding aside, I would trust G&B's stitching over anyone's. At a certain point I am admittedly splitting hairs. A TN is a very well made jacket and so is a Wings. Still if I had to choose, the stitching on a G&B is the best. I haven't seen a Magnoli, so take my statement with that in mind.

I did get very lucky on finding this one! It pays to check the clearance racks often. Again, I can't heap enough praise on this jacket. It is absolutely terrific. For construction, it is definitely on par with TNs and Wings. I can't claim to be enough of an expert to differentiate between them as to what would be best. I just have enough love for all of them. :)

Here's a closer photo of the grain after the wash. There is some of the more smooth grain (that was pretty much uniform when the jacket came) and some areas where the grain has become more pronounced. The only problem now is my basement literally smells like a washed goat!! :o

Dude, as far as comparing to TN or Wings, it's WAYYYYYY better than U.S, Wings (I've owned one), even better (dare I say) than Wested (owned a couple of those). The durability and construction are just leaps and bounds better. TN I can't say, I've never seen one, but just the price alone makes me skeptical and still lean towards the Expo (especially at clearance prices) as being THE best!

but that's just me ;-)

I've never owned a US Wings (other than l'il Indys); for some reason, I don't see Indy when I look at one (it could just be their photography). I just mentioned the Kangaroo and Amarid jackets, because they were the coolest offerings they had!! I think a Kangaroo sold in my size on Ebay last year, and I kind of wish I snapped it up.

I would expect a G&B and a TN stitching to last through my adventures. (And I've already shown the broken bones I incurred while wearing the G&B)

I've owned many, many leather jackets including a Wested IJ LC. The G&B is the best I've had and seen in terms of quality, design and manufacture. \:D/
