Roughneck Oil Driller Jacket

I found this jacket online. It is surprisingly similar to Indy's (at least from the front.) Perhaps this was some of the inspiration for his jacket. Also if they were wearing these in Alaska and West Texas, then that makes it pretty versatile as far as climate. Something Indy would have considered.

Not a bad jacket. Can really see the simliarities. The colour looks pretty nice too. Expensive though considering what you can get from Wested for generally same style OTR much cheaper.

For that price, you'd think they'd have standard sizes rather than the generic S-M-L sizing.

I think it's been posted here before.

I don't like this line necessarily. "Proudly made in the U.S.A or Imported."
If I were to buy one I'd want to be able to specify made in USA or know exactly where it was imported from.

notice also it says "Weight: 0.50 lbs" that can't be right can it?

USWings carries some Cockpit items. Maybe they have this too.

if its imported, it should be cheaper imo. very nice looking jacket. if they had this in their NYC shop a couple of years back, i would have bought it.....it would have been a great souvenier from their shop. instead i went with some shearling gloves.

Yeah, I wasn't overly enthused about this specific jacket, but the style gives me some new search terms to try in google. Eventually I'll buy a jacket from one of our vendors, but for now I just don't have the cash. In the meantime I'd love to find a decent good enough. I thought maybe I could find a vintage roughneck out there somewhere, that would be a passable Indy jacket.

Looks kind of (minus storm flap and obvious differences) similar in design to my Grandpa's '49 horsehide jacket, no? I wonder what the back looks like.

That back looks kind of like Magnoli's Vintage Adventure Jacket. (Which BTW I think is a very cool jacket.)

that was one of my justifications to the wife......i need this jacket if i'm going to visit a rig so i can go on and on about the garment to all the real roughnecks......then they can do this to me.....

i do work in the oil and gas industry up here (i work in 'the patch') so i thought it would be a cool vintage piece that has some association to me. as of late, sporting nothing but SA stuff is getting too common in my day to day....i feel like mixing it up.

plus, i was hoping to post pics of my pecan fedora and this jacket and then have some members mock me for "not even being close"

that would be quite entertaining. "man, this indy G is a noob........he needs to do more homework if he wants real indy gear"

ps - baldwyn and rcs.....my cheque book does not thank you in this endeavor......

ha ha.....unfortunately, that guys got a tonne of safety violations going on with his outfit that he wouldn't' even be allowed on today's drill sites.....but that is a cool look...just needs a stainless steel lunch box with a sandwich inside wrapped up in wax paper.

...but i'm not a roughneck....i'm the guy that comes to the site who the roughnecks want to throw in the mud tank...

btw......a site called 'pilotwear' (i think) offers the same jacket for $50 less....i'm gonna use that when i call up cockpit....see if i can get them to meet the price.

On the other hand, if he would do it, it wouldn't be much extra for a true custom vs a mass produced otr.

the deed is done. i should be getting this jacket next week. i went to 'pilotwear' as they get the same jacket from cockpit usa and do not mind taking less of a margin on the sale.....so i saved $50 $\:D/$

now i'll just wait for holt and the rest of the stitch nazi's to come and scold me with a ruler....."THAT IS NOT SCREEN ACCURATE!!!!!"

oh, what i've found out.......another member here reported that cockpit usa's salesperson said that the jacket was sheep. i phoned the store and the gentlemen who answered said that it was indeed goat per what was advertised. i guess i'll find out.......i'm quite confident that i can tell the difference when she's in my hands (i hope

)......unless they are using some really thick godzilla-ish sheep. that wested pre-washed veg tanned lamb would have thrown me a curve ball based on the texture....so cross your fingers.

also, the caviat that says 'made in usa or imported' was suppose to be a blanket statement for the jacket offerings on their website. this is what the salesperson told me. he also said these are made in the usa.....so there you go obama, i've contributed to your economy

i'm going to wear this with a fedora and my mk vii bag........it's not an indy jacket so i shouldn't get any "hey indy" or "where's the adventure?" comments......right?..........................right?????.........[crickets chirping]

I hope it is US made, you'll know soon. I see some of their jackets are specifically noted as made in USA, so I don't know about the 'blanket' statement.

doc, it's funny how you mentioned 'fedora's' jacket....cuz that's exactly one of the reasons (other than the fact that it's related to oil and gas) why i purchased it...i wanted some 'alternative' gear that's close but not dead on SA. fedora's stuff looked to emulate another gear choice for an adventurer so i wanted to go off on a similar tangent.

i already know she'll be a little longer than most of my jackets and that's what i wanted. perhaps when i get it, my thread will be....."let me present, the most SA jacket that cockpit usa has made ever!!!!"

i'm looking forward to this one. she's not an indy jacket, but a vintage jacket.......which i am thinking would look killer with my g-star elwood's.........i just can't bring myself to wear an SA indy jacket with the elwood's.....it just feels wrong.......now i can

btw, i'm usually a 44 ( i can fit into a wested 42 for some reason). the size large was recommended as the salesperson said a medium worked for him and he was a size 40.

btw dewayne, from the description of the back of the jacket from a member here that went to the cockpit usa store.....it should look close to the design of that vintage jacket.

Exactly. There's no way to replicate that look other than the passage of time. Photos like that should be the poster child of the getting a jacket, forgetting any flaws you may think it has, and simply wearing until you can't even remeber when it was you got it.

too bad its not like the old days when both societal norms as well as your income could only afford you one rough and tumble jacket. i blame wested for this......for giving us affordable jackets...so affordable that you can buy multiple jackets and then make it impossible to wear them in, in your lifetime. so we gotta go with vintage or predistressed jackets...and those cost alot more.

i do have an 'old fashioned' mindset, but you gotta roll with the punches when adapting that to 2009 standards.
