well lets see,
I first started cracking whips at the age of 16,
the whip was a 10 foot four plait swival handle type,
the only crack I knew how to do was the side crack, basicly
I made a lot of noise, .
Then ,
later on down the road of life I bought the Alex Green whipcracking video tapes,
and learned all the basic cracks,
then added Anthony Delonges's tapes to the list,
all in all its become a very addictive sport, so much to learn
and not enough time in the day

I know next to nothing about whip cracking, so I purchased a pair of videos off a board member and hopefully it'll arrive before it starts to get too cold and the leather really starts to hurt more.
But without the video, my first and pretty much only crack I can do on command is the lion tamer type crack. I don't know what the real name is, but it's just forward cracks(nothing special, but it looks like something a lion tamer would use to keep the lion back). I've tried the around the world then crack and was only able to get it a couple times. And the side cracks just keep hitting me in the back???

Yes,
some cracks take a bit longer than others to get the hang of, for some reason, the side crack was the one crack that I was blessed enough to get correctly with out the whip biting back.
The thing that seemed to click with me with the side crack, was to use the body rather than the arm, that is to say, moving the body, and letting the arm follow threw, and not pulling back.
Also,
Paul Stenhouse has an excellent video that illistrates that crack along with many others quite precisely.
Another style of teaching is that of Anthony Delonges , which is from a martial arts perspective, using open flowing action, letting the whip do the work rather than the arm.
I hope that I just didn't totally confuse you , if I did,
sorry about that, .
Remember to take it all slow, and first get the form down and worry about the crack later.
Do you know which video's are being sent to you? if there the Alex green ones they are also an excellent sorce,
there are many out there to be sure,
and if you happen to view all , you will probley incorparate a bit from each.
Good luck,
and
happy cracking.
PS. remember that safty gear.
Cheers
