Just thinking... did Indiana Jones ever have a watch on him... if so do you know which one?

If you do a search, you'll see this particular topic (one near and dear to my heart, by the way) has been discussed numerous times.

That said, it is mentioned in one of the novels of him owning a large silver open faced pocket watch that he pulls out to check the time. I believe it's in the 'Philospher's Stone'.

A pocket watch makes more sense for the first three movies I think . Possibly some sort of wrist watch for LC, but do we see him wear one?

I dunno, men's wrist watches came in around WW I. My great-grandfather kept his from his doughboy days. I hesitate to quote from Wikipedia, but:

Before World War I only women wore wristwatches, they were considered 'unmanly'. Wristwatches became fashionable as a result of their use by soldiers in WW1, who needed access to their watches while their hands were full. These first wristwatches, called 'trench watches', were made with pocketwatch movements, so they were large and bulky and had the crown at the 12 o'clock position like pocketwatches. After the war pocketwatches went out of fashion until by 1930 the ratio of wrist- to pocketwatches was 50 to 1. The first successful self-winding system was invented by John Harwood in 1923.

Plus, unlike his dad, I don't ever recall seeing a watch fob of any kind on Indy's three-piece suits. That'd be a dead giveaway.

BTW, Orvis has a pretty good 1930s-ish military watch:

That Orvis is a nice watch, but I'd place it more in the '40s. Looks similar to or at least reminds me of a German airforce pilots watch

Yes I do own that 24 hour russian wristwatch. I also have a pocket watch version I keep in my MK VII. Cool watches and got them on ebay a few years back.

It's not the best picture and probably I already posted a photo of my watch around here (just can't remember

), but this is my wristwatch which accompanies me day and night, wherever I go.

It's a replica of one of the earliest wristwatches by Junkers (German airplane constructers) for pilots, the original dating back to 1919 I think.

Thinking of Indy's "work" in the field and his style of clothing, I do indeed think he would have worn a wristwatch prefered to a pocket watch in the field, but the latter one when wearing suits, etc. pp. in "civilization":

Keep in mind, too, that the practice of carry at the time for men was a small THIN dress pocket watch that sometimes was NOT used with a chain or fob. He could have easily been carrying one in his vest pocket, and no one would have known the difference.

Interesting story, Bond. I guess it was the one he used when he wasn't carrying the 16s Hampden hunter cased pocketwatch his Mother gave him before she died....which was in a story I wrote over 10 years ago.

I always imagined that being an outdoorsman Indy would wear a plain waterproof watch he didnt mind scratching. probably a navy one, possibly with a 24 hour dial that doubles for navigation.
I have such a watch and it IS useful if you haven't a compass.

This is new to me but then my Indy interest never went beyond the films and the gear. is it from a Young Indy episode?

John rambo wears a Panerai. I think its a pretty Indyesque watch. He would probably have worn the Militare, though. I imagine he porbably would have worn something simple and rugged that can take a beating for his adventures and something more refined for his day to day life. I can't see Indy wearing a fine Swiss watch like an Omega while treasure hunting but I can see him wearing it at Club Obi-Wan for his meet with Lao Che or at Washington at the end of Raiders.

The Black face one on the right is a new Bulova Men's Commemorative Hack Model 96A102 watch I picked up about a year ago. It is my "everyday" "don't want to wear my vintage Omega" Indy gear watch. There was a post on it about a year ago.

You're welcome, I'm a watch geek on a budget.. as in, I like watches but they're something I have a time justifying to myself.. If I had less scruples, I'd buy an Omega. haha Even at the current $115 price, the Bulova's a good deal.

Nah I was totally kidding! Had that pic on the computer so I thought I'd post it.

Dr Ulloa.. good eye with Rambo's Panerai. Stallone is/was somewhat of an ambassador for the brand. What I would do for a Slytech model! His new favorite seems to be U-Boat...another big but very cool looking watch. Basic movements but nicely done dials and cases.

that is my indy watch. i think it is something he could wear at school & in the field. i only wish it was auto-winding instead of quartz. but, then again, i can get the battery replaced every year for free at the place i bought it from.

I think that is watch would be more than suitable. Much older than Bond's 1940's Omega and in my opinion captures the spirit of adventure.

As Beloch had a pocket watch I don't think it too far fetched that Indy did aswell. Wearing one on his wrist may get caught on something. I bet he kept his in his MKVII. I've found an old Ingersol pocket watch. Proberbly far too new but there you go
