Now I'm sorry I asked! It seems I really got jammed! If it wasn't for the fact that I spoke to Gemma 2-3 times late Dec. & early Jan., I would think that had completely forgotten my order!

I wanted to cancel the second inner pocket but she said that the jacket already been cut. I asked about the buggy lining and she said no Sir it's all correct. Let's hope they got it right like the first time :whip:

If the leather has been cut but not sewn they can't delete a second pocket?

Just call them! I have wrote them 5 Emails about canceling the second inner pocket. No reply. What size have you ordered? I just went again for a 40 Long.

What's considered a 'long' in these. The back length of the movie jacket was apparently 26"

I don't know... Maybe she meant the jacket is finished already... If I get the right collar, side vents, no backbone mark, original hardware and no buggy lining I can live with it.

A 40 Long is with 26 Inch Back length according to the Wested Sizing Guide. However I meant my jacket is like a 40 long. So no special sizing.

ah OK I understand. The ToD is so different I never really associated the chart with it. a Raiders with 26" back length would be a 'long'

I got an email from Gemma late this morning apologizing for the lack of responses to emails, and for the hold-up with my order. It seems they ran out of the DB goat, and are expecting a shipment of hides this coming Tues. The one thing I don't quite understand is she wrote that coming in the shipment were Washed Goatskins and Standard Goatskins -- is that DB Goat or Auth. Brown Goat? She didn't specify, so now I don't know if I'm going to be able to get my order filled as I had originally wanted, or if I'll have to switch to Auth. Goat...

Maybe she means both authentic brown and dark brown regular goats, plus the washed goats. :-k

Maybe, but I'm getting the feeling that she meant Auth. goat. It would make sense that they would refer to that as the standard goatskin, since they claim it most closely matches the film jacket color. I really don't think that it meant both colors of goatskin, though...

Standard goatskins sounds like the regular non washed stuff, it doesn't seem to infer either way DB or Auth brown to me.

You can make it look the same by taking the stitching out ;-)

For anyone who saw the NH jacket, did it look like that collar stand end was just sewn with the pieces back to back and raw cut edge out or was the cut edge folded back in as it is on Knibs' ?

This is getting unnecessarily complicated. KT can correct me if I'm wrong, but Peter never offered hides described as "dark brown goat", "authentic brown goat", "soft goat" and "washed goat" all at the same time. The second last batch of regular goat Peter offered was thicker than the most recent batch. Then after that thicker batch ran out, he offered the thinner stock. While he still had the thinner batch available he started offering washed goat, so for awhile there were two types of goat available. There was no separate batch of "soft goat"

Again, if anyone actually knows differently, please speak up.

There are limited hides available for the ToD anyway. They're listed on the order page.

The stitching under the stormflap of my TOD jacket isn't also very straight. But I think they should really get some better quality control.

SD,

Check back to page 6 of this thread -- Peter mentions Dark Brown Goat, Auth. Goat and Washed Goat all in the same post. The only one not mentioned is the soft goat. So I believe that they've always offered the DB & the Auth., then they added the Washed Goat. So it would seem that they offered all 3 of these at the same time...

Unfortunately, my stormflap end looks identical to Knibs. Not really that big a deal, and I'm still happy with it but it would be nice to have all the details right.

I cancelled my order all together. I don't want to play this lottery anymore. To bad this keeps happening with the stitching. I am not as concerned with the details as much as I am about construction. I hate to be dissapointed with gear. That is why I took my money elsewhere.. :-
Now if I buy more than one of the same jacket its because I love it so much not because I am trying to get a "good one"

I was referring to stretching the collar stand end to the shape you like by using hot water. It's the same method as described in this thread for pocket flaps:

viewtopic.php?t=17315

I really wouldn’t bother with the seam ripper unless you’re a ruthless Stitch Nazi. ;-)

Well, unfortunately it was as I thought -- here's Gemma's reply:

Dear Jace,
The standard brown goatskin is the authentic brown as we dont offer the dark brown now.
Cheers Gemma

So, they're not getting any more DB goat anytime soon it seems. I've now had to switch my order to Dark Brown to this. Anyone have any idea how to darken up an authentic brown-colored jacket?

Holt,

Are you serious? Because I thought of that, but then thought that it's not dark enough (I have some of it here). I was thinking of getting some of the black Pecards to mix in with the brown to make it a little darker, or just using a leather oil to darken it up...

I guess that's what I'll do -- give it a good shower treatment to knock off the shine, and then soak it in oil and/or brown Pecards. First, I have to get the jacket, though...wish me luck!!

How much darker is 'Dark brown goat' compared to 'Authentic brown goat'?

The authentic brown is still dark

I've never seen the Auth. goat or lamb in person, only the DB versions and the Washed Goat. It's just that it looks sort of medium brown in some pics posted here -- I wanted that so-brown-it's-almost-black shade of brown...I'll keep my fingers crossed that the Auth. Brown Goat is dark enough for me...

Orb,

Is your Auth. Lamb as dark as it looks in this pic? Is the Auth. Goat not as dark as the Auth. Lamb? Look at Whiskyman's pic is this post:

Your Auth. Lamb looks darker than both of those jackets!!

The color of the auth. lambskin depends mostly on the lighting. I just can say if you go for the dark brown you maybe end with a quite reddish jacket. Just take a look at McFlys EX TOD Jacket. I really don't like the redish tone.

Clutters,

Too bad that's not me wearing the jacket -- it's Whiskeyman!! I bought that jacket from him. It doesn't fit all that differently, though. I really only posted that for a color comparison between Auth. Brown, Dark Brown and Washed Goatskin.

Jace I'd say that picture of orb shows the authentic brown lamb about the right shade, if not slightly lighter than it really is (based on a comparison to mine) As orb says though, lighting has an effect.
I don't know if the authentic brown goat is any different, probably not.

Orb/RC,

Thanks for the reassurance -- I was having difficulties dealing with the fact that Wested was not going to be getting any more DB Goatskin anytime soon. I still had them change my order to the Auth. Brown, but I was already thinking of ways to darken it up myself. But if that's a pretty accurate pic, then I should be happy enough, thanks again for the help!

This is the color of the auth. lamb with lightning.

However it's my second jacket in auth. lambskin and this hide was always like a chamaleon IMO.

My authentic brown lamb was the perfect colour for a TOD jacket, especially after it was distressed. Personally, I think it's a lighter brown than Raiders. Dark brown would be fine for a Raiders jacket, but you won't be disappointed with your authentic brown, be it goat or lamb, for the TOD jacket.

Out of interest Tyrloch, when you ordered your jackets, were you able to select dark brown goat and authentic brown goat on the two individual orders? Sorry if it's been covered; it's an awful long thread to look back over.

Not sure if I'm understanding the question correcty, but what I did was specify DB goat in the special requests box for both jackets. I then followed up with an email to Gemma to make sure she saw it, and that she knew that Peter said he had the hides. This was after Peter posted on the board that he had some of it left. I suppose that either my request got lost in the shuffle, or that they ran out of the DB Goat before my order came up...

So, back when you ordered, there was still only the option of authentic brown goat listed in the pull down menu on the order form?
It's no wonder the order got mixed up; seems you have to keep things REALLY simple or they just get forgotten.

Re: Wested TOD arrived!

Post by orb »

Yesterday I got my second Wested TOD Jacket. This time I went with the washed goat.
Wait Time was nearly 8 weeks. I got some lightly visible backbone mark on the back of the jacket.
But I'm gonna to distress the jacket very soon so no big deal. Everything else is correct like on my auth. Lambskin TOD jacket.
So I got the correct vents, stormflap end and original hardware too. Pictures soon.

Nah I just wanted a washed goat and a second TOD makes sense for me because it was the safest way to go.
